OfficeJet Pro 6968
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I cannot connect to the Instant Ink Server through the printer, Surface 3 tablet or iPhone 6 using the wifi (Charter Spectrum). I can connect with the Surface 3 and iPhone if I use cellular service. Charter Spectrum sent out a technician. He tweaked some things, but couldn't resolve my problem.Seems like the computer can't handshake with the instant ink server. Spectrum does not block any websites, and my firewall isn't blocking anything.

I am able to print from the tablet and my mobile phone. I can open up the printer's IP address in my web browser.

On my tablet I test this by trying to connect to 20180.www2.hp.com.

Hey @wink6968, please complete the following steps to set a manual DNS server.

• (1) On the front panel of your printer touch the Wi-Fi icon

• (2) Take note of the IP Address on this screen

• (3) On your computer, open the internet browser. In the address bar type in your printer's IP Address - don't include www.

• (4) Search to this site. A website for your printer should now open.

• (5) On the printer's website, click the Network tab at the top

• (6) In the left sub-menu, click Wireless

• (7) Click Network Address (IP)

• (8) Click on Manual DNS Server

• (9) Input the Manual Preferred DNS as 8.8.8.8

• (10) Input the Alternate DNS Server as 8.8.4.4

• (11) Click on Apply to finalize this change

NOTE: The steps may not be exactly as typed as they are generic for a group of printers, but the manual DNS information will be under the Networking tab.

Does your printer now connect to the Instant Ink server?

Hi Lisa! Thank you for responding; however, that didn’t work. The web access test results show the DNS address as 8.8.8.8; passed all tests; there is no proxy; but Test Server: Accessible = Failed.
HP ePrint is On
Printer IP Address=192.168.1.13.
Configuration Source = DHCP
DNS Setting = Manual

Hey @wink6968,

Andrea here 🙂 Lets go back into your embedded web server and I would like you to go to Settings>Administrative> then scroll down and check to see if there is a check mark beside Instant Ink under the Web Services also scroll further down and check to see if there is a check mark beside automatic updates. If there is I want you to scroll back up and remove the check mark beside instant Ink and then beside Web services and click Okay/Apply. Go back in and put the check marks back in and click Okay/Apply and then go to the Web Services tab in the embedded web server and click Setup in there and see if it will allow you to connect.

Thanks,

Andrea
