This is a little old but I'm having the same problem with my 6830 printer. Cartridges are very expensive costing more than the printer itself so I use alternative pigment ink. Recently I bought a set of rechargeable cartridges 934/935 witch are transparent and we can see the ink level while using. I have used these ink in original cartridges without problem but when using the same ink in rechargeable cartridges the colors became incorrect. I noticed that yellow and magenta were faded comparing with original cartridge (filled with the same ink). It appears that the printer firmware noticing the alternative cartrige turns off or changes the internal ICC profile so the colors mixing become incorrect. What was green now shows as a kind of cyan because there is less yellow ink available. The printer driver does not allow to control ink levels and I could not find or create a new ICC profile to correct this issue. Hope someone can help me to use my alternative cartridges.

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Officejet Pro 6830 printer. I understand that you are getting print quality issues and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.
It is not recommended to use alternative cartridges on HP Printer.
These cartridges might not give the best quality because this printer is not tested with that.
However you can try the bellow steps to fix this issue,
- Check the paper.
- Check the print settings.
- Check for ink smears on the back of printouts.
- Check the estimated ink levels.
- Print and evaluate a diagnostic page, and then troubleshoot defects.
- Use an automated tool to clean the printhead.
Click here and refer the document to perform the above steps.
Let me know if that helps.
Cheers.

Thank you for your repply. I already did all the troubleshooting and agree that original ink is the best, but HP makes products to the whole world and here in Brazil those cartridges are very expensive. We domestic users don't make money with our printers like most business do, so we cannot avoyd using alternative cartridges or refilling original ones. I really love Hp technology but can't afford it. The last set of cartridges costed more than US$ 100 and does not last long! I'd really like to know how my printer deals with ICC profile and how to customize the amount of ink used, like my older HP 840C has in its driver as bright, intensity, color tone, saturation and ink volume. We cannot access those parameters inside 6830 driver. I hope you can understand my english cause my mother language is brazilian portuguese. Best regards.

I really appreciate your effort to solve my problem but wouldn't like to bother you on mobilizing a team to deal with it. My main intention was to help another hp customer who was having issues with color printing. Maybe he was not even using alternative cartridge or ink and had a printer head problem. I'm trying to understand the issue, get print samples and compare the original colors with alternative ones. I will be happy to post my results. I'm not blaming HP for anything at all and agree that original cartridges are the best. My printer is off warranty period. During that time I have always used original cartridges and I saved my rechargeable ones for more than a year only as backup. I'd be happy to control the ink levels during print in order to obtain vivid colors. It's a wonderful printer. Thank you.
