Photosmart 5524 printer

Some people have posted some really useful solutions to this problem on the forum (thanks v much) but annoyingly I still can't get my Photosmart 5524 to scan to my Asus laptop. Bizarrely it prints fine but it won't scan.

Any further solutions beyond the ones suggested (modifying the settings in Proxy Settings and Network Address?

Please provide the following relevant information so someone can help including:

Printer Model – done
Operating System of computer -
Detailed Problem Description including all network devices (extenders, switches)-
Connection Method - USB, Hardwired LAN, Wireless, Wireless Direct? -
Make and model number of router and modem? -
Error messages - on printer screen and/or computer, any blinking light patterns? –
Is the printer plugged directly into the wall outlet?  Do not use any UPS, power strip or surge protector.  Yes this WILL cause the printer to drop offline and print strangely.
Do you think the printer is going to sleep and can’t wake up? -
If wireless, when the problem occurs, what is the status of Blue Wireless light on the printer, on, off or blinking? –

Power off printer and router.  Power on router and wait 3 mins, power on printer.  Does it connect to the router now?  What is the printers IP address?

Thanks for your help. I've filled in the answers to your questions below in underlined type

Printer Model – done
Operating System of computer - Windows 10
Detailed Problem Description including all network devices (extenders, switches)- when I press 'Scan' on the printer, it thinks for a while and then comes up with an error message. However, I can print wirelessly to the printer from my laptop.
Connection Method - USB, Hardwired LAN, Wireless, Wireless Direct? - Wireless
Make and model number of router and modem? - Make: Sky. Model: ER110
Error messages - on printer screen and/or computer, any blinking light patterns? – Error message reads as follows:

Server error connection: -1

There was a problem connecting to the server. Touch retry to conect again, or OK to exit

Is the printer plugged directly into the wall outlet?  Do not use any UPS, power strip or surge protector.  Yes this WILL cause the printer to drop offline and print strangely.  I have changed this so that the printer plugs directly into the wall

Do you think the printer is going to sleep and can’t wake up? - No
If wireless, when the problem occurs, what is the status of Blue Wireless light on the printer, on, off or blinking? – off

Power off printer and router.  Power on router and wait 3 mins, power on printer.  Does it connect to the router now? No  What is the printers IP address? 192.168.0.4.

You are connected wireless and the blue wireless light is off???

HP Recommended

Sorry, the wireless light IS on. It is just quite faint.

Well you have a valid IP but you say you are not connected to your router?  Again, confusing statements.  I suspect you are connected to your router with your SSID, correct?

Let’s download and run the HP Print and Scan doctor, what does this say?

Get it here:  HP Print and Scan Doctor

Sorry, you're dealing with an amatuer...

When I turn the printer off, unplug, wait 3 minutes and then plug back in and switch on, it DOES connect to the router. It just doesn't connect when I try to scan.

So after some time goes by, the printer does not want to print?

Download and run the above Print and Scan doctor.

HP Recommended

The printer always prints - I've not had any problem with that. Only scanning.

I am running the scan doctor. It says I haven't got the most up to date version of the software. I am downloading it.

I'll let you know how it goes.

(Thank you for all your help by the way)
