HP 7210
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I want to convert my connectivity on my older HP 7210 printer from USB to Ethernet. I can successfully see http://192.168.1.99/, where it correctly identifies the printer. So, the computer does see the printer from a browser. I tried HP EasyStart. It runs through "Finding Printers ..." and finds my 7210. I continued to "Checking your software needs ..." and then Skip "Enjoy HP Account Benefits". Then, I get "Unable to Communicate with Printer". Everything is good (still connected) according to the browser view.

I just want to change from USB connection to Ethernet connection. Suggestions??? Thank you in advance!!

  • Do you have any Anti-virus software installed on your PC?
  • Try opening the EWS page of the printer and print a test page.
  1. Obtain the IP address of the printer.
  2. Type the IP address at the top of your web browser(Google Chrome) to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  3. If you get any security notification, click on show details/advanced and 'proceed to this website'.
  4. Go to Tools > print a test page.

If you are able to print a test page, install the printer using Windows built-in driver

Refer to this document to know how.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Do you have a HP Photosmart C7200 All-in-One Printer? If yes, follow the steps below:

If you previously installed the software for a USB connection and now want to switch to an Ethernet connection, you can change the connection type with the HP software.

  1. Open or search for the HP folder in your list of installed software programs, click the folder for your printer, and then click the name of your printer. The printer software opens.

  2. Click Printer Setup & Software Selection.

  3. Click Connect a new printer, and then follow the on-screen instructions to set up the printer on your wired network.

  4. Disconnect the USB cable from the printer and the computer.

To help you further with this follow the link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-photosmart-c7200-all-in-one-printer-series/3204782/document/...

Hello and thank you for the reply. I have an HP 7210. It's an older model, probably more than 10 years. It works well. I'm pleased with it. I have multiple HP or Hewlett-Packard folders under folders Program Files and Program Files (x86). I've dug through all of these and do not find a folder for this printer. Nothing name 7210, or HP7200, or HP7200, or anything resembling a printer name.

I have previously followed the support document that you reference.  I downloaded the software (Easy Start) and it seems to go OK. At first, it recognizes that I have a printer connected to the appropriate IP address.  But later in the process, it says that it cannot find the prininter

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor and run the program. It will automatically diagnose and fix any printer connectivity issues.

For more information, go to https://support.hp.com/us-en/topic/printscandoctor

Hope this helps!

Hi. I downloaded and ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor app. It correctly found the printer. In Step 1, it says "The Following Products Are Visible from your computer", and shows a picture of my 7210. All good so far.

I click on NEXT, and it "The selected product is not connected. " So I click on "Network-Wired". And it tells me to make a connection.

Well, I already have a connection. I am confident that it is connected. I can go to the local printer's URL and it shows up. The print and scan doctor app "sees it".

Next suggestion?!? Thank you again so very much.

Hello Kumar,

I can successfully go to http://192.168.1.99. the IP Address for the printer. There are three tabs:

HOME, SETTINGS, NETWORKING

Under HOME, I see the Printer info, and under Applications > Scan. I clicked on this and it successfully invoked the light scanner.

I did not get any Security Notification.

I do not see a TOOLS >Print A Test Page.

However, since I was able to invoke the scanning mechanism, I went to the Link that you suggest, which says to run through the generic Add a Printer again. I replaced the driver with the generic driver.

We have SUCCESS!!!
