Trying to hook my printer up to my laptop. However, it is asking for a PIN on the printer. I no longer have the paperwork, and if its a PIN that I set up, I have no idea what I set as my password/PIN. Is there a way to bypass this or reset the printer?

Hi @Bobbie1990,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer is asking for a PIN during the setup process and you don't have the paperwork or don't remember setting up a PIN, there are a few steps you can take to resolve the issue. Here's what you can do.
- Look for the Default PIN: Some HP printers come with a default PIN, which is often printed on a label attached to the printer or in the user manual. Check the printer for any labels or stickers that might have the default PIN.
- Perform a Factory Reset (if necessary): If you're unable to find the PIN and HP support recommends it, you may need to perform a factory reset on your printer. Keep in mind that this will erase all customized settings, so be prepared to reconfigure your printer. The process may vary depending on your printer model, so consult the user manual or HP's website for specific instructions.
- Check the Printer's Control Panel: Sometimes, the PIN request is part of the wireless setup process. Check the printer's control panel for any on-screen instructions or settings related to PIN entry. You might find an option to reset or bypass the PIN from there.
- Update Firmware: Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Occasionally, HP releases firmware updates that address issues like this. Updating the firmware might help resolve the PIN-related problem.
- Use WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup): If the PIN request is part of the Wi-Fi setup, you can often bypass it by using the WPS method. Check if your printer and router support WPS and follow the instructions to connect using WPS. This usually doesn't require a PIN.
Remember that it's essential to have the correct PIN or follow the proper procedures to ensure the security of your printer and network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
