Same problem here. iOS 5.1 devices (iPhone 4S and iPad 2) are not finding the printer.

Power cycling the printer and router did not help. I rebooted the i-devices too, for good measure.

I have Bonjour turned on in the printer settings.

Is there some other setting necessary to enable AirPrint? Port forwarding in the router?

Replying to my own post...

Power-cycling the 8600 a second time caused its AirPrint service suddenly to become visible to my iOS devices. It works now. :Surprise:

Many thanks for the post - I have tried every thing suggested and am now sure it is router blocking bonjour from other posts I've seen. Is there anything that I can do to the router or do I need to buy a new one?

I had my OfficeJet Pro 8600 working with AirPrint.  Somewhere along the way it stopped.  I did not update my router firmware or change the configuration, but I know an HP update got applied to the printer.  So after reading the messages here, I decided to do the hard reboot and update my router's firmware.  I'm not sure which one solved the problem, but after doing both of those things, I was able to use AirPrint again from my iPhone 4S.

I found the solution for me.  if you have two routers make sure you connect to the sae router your printer connects too.  we use a router down stairs to connect to the  main router upstairs ( bad signal reception between upstais and down).  if my ipad conncts to the one upstairs it cannot print, but the one downstairs is directly conected to the printer.  i suspct also that if the printer connects through any other device to the main router then you must connect your ipad to that devices ip address and yhe device must be on.

dont knw if that helps

Well, after getting it working again, it stopped working again.  Basically, I think HP is doing a crappy job on AirPrint compatibility.  Naturally, their ePrint still works fine.  Hmmm.  A little competition there?  Maybe they don't care much about making AirPrint work because they'd rather you use ePrint?  It could very well be.  Remind me not to buy HP again.  My daughter's brand new HP laptop has a bad wireless card and I had to disable some of their software on my computer the other day because it was flaking out.  This company is simply not what it used to be, however they're still good at jacking you around on the price for ink.

Go to settings on your iPad. Select wifi.  Press the blue arrow next to the network name in the list your printer is currently on.  When the network settings page comes up, make sure the http proxy setting is set to auto.  This solved the same issue I had with the 8600 printer.  Hope this helps!

I was able to establish connection between HP 8600 and my iPhone 4S after I removed my phone from it's protective case (mophie).

i have read all the posts regarding issues with airprint not finding my officejet pro 8600 and i have tried all the recommendations, however i still get flakey results. if i go through the unplugging routine for both the router and the printer, it will work for a couple of times and then i get the printer not found message all over again. This happens on my iphone and ipad. As there been anything new discovered since the last post? (i have a belkin N600 rounter)

Since you have checked to make sure the printer’s and router firmware is up to date, I would make sure that the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet to ensure that it is getting enough power. It could be entering sleep mode and when the router tries to communicate with the printer in sleep mode that might be where they are “loosing” each other.  What is the latest firmware version for the Belkin N 600 router?
