wifi Wi-Fi-connected printer keeps losing connection to web services (HP Ink which i am enrolled in) and will not recognise 4x6 photo paper loaded in the photo tray, keeps saying to load photo paper. Everything else works fine. Tried disconnecting from the router, and turning off the computer and printer several times but nothing seems to work, printer and scanner work just fine. Using 7640 e all in one printer.

Hi @emma22,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It can be frustrating when a Wi-Fi-connected printer faces connectivity issues and has trouble recognizing specific paper types. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve these issues with your HP OfficeJet 7640 e-All-in-One printer.

Connectivity Issues:

  • Check Wi-Fi Signal Strength: Ensure that the printer has a strong and stable Wi-Fi signal. If the signal is weak, consider moving the printer closer to the router.
  • Restart Router and Printer: Turn off both the router and the printer. Wait for about 30 seconds, then turn on the router and wait for it to fully restart. After that, turn on the printer and allow it to reconnect to the Wi-Fi network.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP support website. Installing the latest firmware can address compatibility issues and improve overall performance.
  • Reset Network Settings: On the printer's control panel, navigate to the network settings and perform a network reset. This will erase existing network configurations, and you can set up the Wi-Fi connection again.
  • Static IP Address: Consider assigning a static IP address to your printer. This ensures that the printer always gets the same IP address from the router, which can prevent connection issues.
  • Firewall/Antivirus Software: Check if your firewall or antivirus software is blocking the printer's communication. Temporarily disable the firewall or antivirus and check if the issue persists.

Paper Recognition Issues:

  • Paper Tray Configuration: Ensure that the photo tray is configured correctly for 4x6 photo paper. Adjust the paper guides in the tray to fit the dimensions of the paper.
  • Clean Paper Rollers: Over time, paper rollers can accumulate dust and debris. Clean the rollers using a lint-free cloth and distilled water. Consult your printer manual for specific instructions on cleaning the rollers.
  • Paper Type Settings: Make sure that the paper type selected in the print settings on your computer matches the type of paper loaded in the photo tray. Some printers require you to specify the paper type manually.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Outdated drivers can lead to compatibility issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

thanks for replying, WI FI connected printer both scans and prints from and to the computer and I have a strong WI FI connection. I have tried all the steps provided to no avail.

Now it tells me printing will be blocked unless I connect to HP Connected, I did have an eprint address but can no longer connect to that, I have been enrolled in HP Ink for some years now so short of doing a total uninstall and reinstall I am at a loss.
