Last resort so I have connected the printer to my router via the USB cable.

I have checked the router settings and it clearly lists the printer but the status is not connected.

What am i doing wrong?

I am working from home and VPN into our work drives so i appreciate the wireless on my laptop will only print when i disconnect from the VPN.

All devices will be wirelessly connected.

So I turn on the wi-fi if select my router and it doesnt find the printer however if i connect to HP-Setup<b7>Deskjet2600series  it is connected but with no internet.

Please tell me what im doing wrong. I have installed routers and printers over the years and thi has stumped me

Hi @mabaker66,

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you

Due to the current global COVID-19 situation, we're seeing an influx of customers coming in for support. We appreciate your patience.

The direct-setup is the wireless direct(Wi-Fi direct connection)

Wi-Fi direct is a method that connects your printer directly to your phone or computer using default or an assigned password, the drawback of this type of connection is that you will not be able to access the internet and print at the same time.

I would like to know, is your router set to work on 2.4 GHz networks, 5 GHz network band, or both?

If both, make sure your computer and other devices that you want a print from are connected ed to 2.4GHznetwork.

The printer can only connect toa 2.4GHz network

Disconnect the USB and follow the steps below to connect the printer to the network

please try the steps below to connect your printer to the network.

-->On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wireless button and the Resume button together for three seconds. (When Wi-Fi Direct is turned on, the Wi-Fi Direct icon on the display stays on)
--->On your computer or phone go to wifi and connect it to your printer
--->Select your printer with DIRECT in the name from the list of available networks (example: DIRECT-74-HP Deskjet2600).
--->Select the Wi-Fi Direct printer signal in Wi-Fi settings
--->If prompted for a password, type 12345678. This is the default password to log in.
--->Now open a browser and type 192.168.223.1
--->you will be able to access the printer's EWS page
--->on the page, you will find network - click on it
--->go to wireless and select wireless setup wizard
--->now select the network that you want your printer to connect to and type in the password
--->the printer will have solid blue light if it's connected
--->then connect your phone back to your network

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
