Product name: HP ENVY 14 Notebook PC
Product number: LW398UA#ABA
Serial number:{Personal Information Removed}
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1
My computer's information is above. I have absolutely no sound coming from my laptop even if I use headphones. It is making no sounds at all. Not even windows noises. It worked earlier today but I noticed that I had to turn the volume up higher than usual to hear it. Now, there is nothing.

Hi,
Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53001-53500/sp53281.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then perform a hard reset for your Model as detailed in the document Here.
Next, tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete. Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

DP-K

I did exactly as written and it did not work. However, I decided to try again and see what would happen if I just went with the driver that windows automatically installed and it worked. I don't understand, but I have sound again, so I am not complaining. Thank you!

Hi,
I have the same problem. I just opened up my new Envy 14 and there is no sound. The computer recognizes that there is sound and it believes that sound is playing when it actually isn't. I followed the instructions and nothing happened.
Help please!

Hello TheKingJingles,
I see that you are having problems with the sound on your computer. I would like to help with this issue but I need some information.
Can you provide the model and product number of the computer? Here is a link that shows how to find that information.
How long have you been having the problem with the sound?

Same Issue. No sound on HP Envy. It says that it is playing, but there is no sound. Tries a system restore, revert to last driver update, and uninstall/reinstall driver. None of these worked. I would appreciate any help. I have had nothing but problems with this product

Hi thanks for the response. I have an HP Envy 15. I was able to restore my audio by doing a hard restart, but I've been reading and others with the same pc have said that may not work every time. Any insight would be great.
Additionally, I have had constant trouble with catalyst control center since I got the computer. It seems it stops working whenever it needs to switch graphics cards. I do a lot of rendering with CAD programs so this is a problem. I opened a ticket a few months back, but the tech was unable to help.
Thanks
