Hii, I've just bought hp omen gaming laptop 16 and met some difficulties. It makes some strange noises (like connecting the wire headphones)  even if i am not connecting anything. The sounds come when i am switching apps (e.g. opening discord or youtube) and it's like some mechanical issues. I installed HP Support Assistant and HP PC Hardware Dagnostics and installed every  current drivers. Has anyone had similar problem or should I just return the laptop to the shop?

When switching between apps on a brand new HP Omen laptop, strange noises usually stem from sudden power shifts, fan control changes, or audio driver conflicts. Since it is brand new, mechanical failure is rare, and it is likely a software configuration or power state issue. The three most common causes and how to isolate them include:

1. High-Pitched Buzzing or Hissing (Coil Whine)

If you hear a faint, electrical buzzing or high-pitched whistle right as you switch apps, this is likely coil whine. It happens when electrical current passes through power-regulating components (inductors) on your motherboard or GPU. When you swap windows, the graphics card and processor rapidly shift power states, causing the components to vibrate at an audible frequency.

• The Fix: Coil whine is completely harmless and does not mean your computer is broken. However, you can often minimize it by changing your laptop's thermal profile. Open the OMEN Gaming Hub, navigate to Performance Control, and set the profile to Balanced or Quiet. Disabling "Dynamic Power Mode" can also smooth out these sudden electrical shifts.

2. Audio Popping, Clicking, or Crackling

If the noise sounds like it is coming directly from the speakers (even a quick "pop" or "click" right when changing apps), it is likely an audio driver power management issue. Windows often puts the audio card to sleep to save power, and switching apps can abruptly "wake" the device, creating an audible pop.

• The Fix: You can often solve this by adjusting your audio settings. Right-click the sound icon in your taskbar, open your playback device's properties, and navigate to the Advanced tab. Try switching the default sample rate (for instance, from 48000 Hz to 44100 Hz). Additionally, disabling "Audio Enhancements" in that same menu can stop app conflicts.

3. Quick Fan Whir or Revving

If the sound is a sudden, physical "whoosh" or a quick revving sound, it is just your cooling system. Opening a new application causes a brief spike in CPU usage. The Omen's aggressive fan curves can react immediately, spinning up for just a second or two before settling back down.

• The Fix: Updating your system's BIOS can drastically improve how smoothly the fans react to small tasks. You can download the latest updates directly from the official HP Support Assistant or the HP Omen Drivers and Software page.
