Model: HP Notebook 17-x032ng

BIOS/UEFI vendor: InsydeH2O
BIOS version: F.34
BIOS date: 09 June 2020
BIOS mode: UEFI (Secure Boot enabled)

Question:

For some older HP notebooks using InsydeH2O BIOS, it is known that after multiple incorrect BIOS password attempts a so-called "System Disabled" code may be displayed. This code can sometimes be used by support to reset the BIOS password.

Could you please confirm whether for the above device and BIOS version (HP 17-x032ng, InsydeH2O BIOS F.34 dated 09 June 2020):

  • a "System Disabled" code is displayed after a defined number of incorrect BIOS password attempts, and
  • such a code allows a BIOS password reset via an official HP service mechanism,

or whether this BIOS version no longer displays such a code and BIOS password reset is only possible via authorized hardware or service procedures.

This request is not asking for instructions or bypass methods. I am only requesting a general security-related clarification regarding whether this BIOS version still includes such a support recovery mechanism.

Here is HP's official policy regarding BIOS passwords:

 

According to the Community's Rules of Participation:

 

4d. No posts shall include instructions/directions intended to bypass or subvert security mechanisms such as lock screens, BitLockers, BIOS lock, passwords, fingerprint/biometry scanners, PINs, or any other safety measures.
