HP 17-x013dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been attempting to Enable Legacy boot and Disable Secure boot on this machine for a couple of days now.  My current BIOS version is F.06 from BIOS vendor Insyde.  My HP laptop model number is HP 17-x013dx.  Product No. W2N03UA#ABA The System Board ID is 8205 which has a "Born On Date" of 7/30/2016.  Serial number of Bios is [edit].  My Factory installed OS is Windows 10.  Processor Type is Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU N3710 @ 1.60 GHZ.  System Board CT Number PFXED1ANN304.

I fix computers daily for my own company and never fell into a hair-ball like this one.  I can follow technical directons exactly but none of them work.

It is the oddest thing.  I am able to change the date and time, save and have them succesfully change...but I cannot get legacy to enable and save as well as disable secure boot and save.

I have tried all 5 of these methods on this tech site at this URL:  [edit]which include:

Method 1: Switch to Legacy Boot in BIOS, reboots with same message: "Selected boot image did not Authenticate.  Press <enter> to continue.  <OK> is shown below that and when you press enter the laptop shuts off completely.  When you go back into BIOS, Legacy boot is still disabled. Method 2: Perform Hard Reset (Took out battery and drained capacitor) reinserted battery and powered up.  I got to same screen as shown above:  "Selected boot image did not Authenticate.  Press <enter> to continue.  <OK> then the  laptop shuts off completely. Method 3: Load Default BIOS Configuration - I powered on while holding down F2, F12, and Delete and none of those options brought me anything but the same message as Method 1 and 2.  I also tried another method to reload Bios by pressing Windows key + B at the same time and powering on the laptop.  Same as other attempts.  Same screen with same message then press ok and laptop shuts off. Method 4: Run Automatic Repair - could not boot to CD after changing boot order, pressing F10 and YES to confirm changes while my Windows 10 CD in the tray.  BIOS saves the boot order change but the DVD does not load and the same message is displayed as Method 1-3.  On each of these results pressing enter shuts off the computer. Method 5: Run Hardware Diagnostics - Pressing F2 goes to System Diagnostics to do a Hard Drive test, or Test Memory, Language, or Exit.  Diagnostic never starts on any of the settings and you end up having to exit back to the  "Startup Menu" page that shows:

F1 System Information

F2 System Diagnostics

F9 Boot Device Options

F10 Bios Setup

F11 System Recovery

Enter - Continue Startup

For more information, please visit: hp.com/go/techcenter/startup (The only selection that goes anywhere is pressing Enter) which takes you back to the "Selected boot image did not Authenticate. " message.

Method 6:

I read on another site that it could be a hard drive failure so I went to Best Buy tonight an bought a brand new hard drive.  Problems stayed the same exactly.. nothing is different after installing the new hard drive.

I tried booting to the Utility Partition by pressing F12 upon startup.  Same as above result.. same screen with the message.  Does not give you a window to go into Utility Partition.  F11 does not start System Recovery either.  F9 takes you to the Boot Device Options page but none of the options work.

Finally I googled Legacy boot will not enable in bios and I found your site with another guy that had the same problem exactly.  The advice he was told is here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktops-Archive-Read-Only/BIOS-Refuses-to-Enable-Legacy-Boot/td-p/549... and was told to "Please try to create the BIOS Administrator Password and then try to change the settings?"  I am fixing this computer for a customer but he didn't have a password on the bios or even know how to create one to start with.

Anyway in the posting on your site he says he updating BIOS back to V 02.05 and it worked for him supposedly so that he could make changes in his BIOS.  He had reverted to an earlier one at first which is where his problems started I am guessing.

You can see all the things he did after he updated to the later BIOS which were settings unique to him but I would gladly settle for being able to boot to the Windows 10 DVD by changing the boot order.  The bios version on this laptop was never updated and always worked correctly though I am trying to figure how he reloaded it when no changes save when you press F10 and "Yes" you would like to "Save Changes and Exit"?

I have looked through several forums and none of the solutions have worked.  Any wisdom you could throw my way would be exceptionally appreciated!  For now I am going to put the original hard drive back into the laptop and take the other one back to get my $ back for the hard drive since it wasn't the problem.  If there is a URL address you think would help me solve this problem I would appreciate it if you would paste it into a reply and I could follow it exactly letter for letter.

Anyway anything at all you could enlighten me with would be awesome.  Thank you for even reading through all of this.

Oh yeah I have a copy of Windows 10 on a bootable USB that works correctly if I could get the BIOS to save a change in the boot order to boot 1st to a USB port.  I am wondering if this laptop has a corrupted BIOS that is unfixable!  Thanks again!

Asmita6658,

I received an email from you telling me to click on the URL address you sent but when I got there there was no advice or reference material.. I am missing something because I was looking for some sort of a solution and I couldn't find any.

Thanks for putting up with a newcomer.. I sure didn't find any suggestions when I logged back onto Community Support .

Nobody else on the support team sent a solution ether.

Thanks
