ENVY m6-k125dx

Hi all, have an HP ENVY TouchSmart m6-k125dx.  It will turn on for about 10 seconds then shuts off.  The power and Wifi lights will come on, I can hear the HDD spin up, and the CPU fan is running.  The screen doesn't come on.  After about 10 seconds it shuts off. Charging port light is orange while plugged into the adapter.  Have tried removing the battery, RAM, and CMOS battery for several minutes and then reconnecting.  Battery is slightly bloated.  Have tried to turn it on with the battery disconnected as well.  Any idea what's going on?  Further things to try?

Thanks

Hi! @scarf1, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand your laptop turns on for a few seconds and shuts down randomly.

Don't worry I'll to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your laptop?

Does the laptop shut down while you are at the BIOS page?

Is your PC getting overheated?

Try updating the windows to the latest version.

Try updating the BIOS and chipset drivers on your PC and check if it helps.

Also, update the chipset drivers on your PC using this link: Click Here

You can also try updating other drivers on your PC using HP support assistant.

Try restoring the BIOS to default and check if it helps.

1.    Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
2.    Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
3.    On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
4.    Press F10 to Save and Exit.
5.    Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
6.    Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Also, try the steps recommended below.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
Click Advanced system settings.
Click the Advanced tab.
In the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings.
Click to clear the Automatically restart check box.

If the issue persists try running a system diagnostics test on your PC and check if the hardware components on your PC are functioning correctly.

Hi @MrRobot thanks for your suggestions.  The laptop isn't "randomly" shutting down... but it will always shutdown after 10 seconds from turning it on.  To answer your questions:

The laptop was left at my house and i'm not sure what changes there have been to the software/hardware.

The BIOS page doesn't even show up.

The laptop is only on for 10 seconds before shutting off, so it's not overheating.

Since the laptop shuts off after 10 seconds, there is no way to boot into Windows.

Since the BIOS page doesn't show up, there is no way to update the BIOS.

Since the laptop doesn't stay on to boot into Windows, no drivers can currently be updated, nor can the HP Support Assistant be executed.

I have tried to get into the BIOS settings by repeatedly pushing F10 after turning on the laptop, but nothing happens and it still shuts off after 10 seconds.

There is no way to get to "My Computer" or run the System Diagnostics.

What we are dealing with is some low-level hardware problem I believe...

@scarf1, Thanks for the detailed answer and your time.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned you are unable to boot into BIOS as the laptop shuts down within 10 seconds.

Have you tried checking with a different adapter or a different wall outlet?

It certainly sounds like a hardware issue with the laptop. The motherboard on your laptop could be faulty.

I will share you few details through a private message about the service options for your laptop.

Please watch your inbox for more information.

Hope this helps!

Take Care! 🙂
