Hi, I am using the HP 250 G6 with i3-7020U & Intel HD 620, 8GB RAM. Windows 10 64Bit 22H2. It is out of warranty.
I having a problem with firmware 72. I downloaded the following: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-250-g6-notebook-pc/15747807/swItemId/o...
Which prompted to restart in order to install the update, I accepted, the laptop restarted into the firmware updater which completed to 100%. The laptop then rebooted and turn off. I left it for about 10 minutes, came back and noticed it was still off / black screen. I tried to turn it on but all I get is a black screen. I can hear the fan spin up, it then turns off then spins up again but never stops spinning.
At this stage, the machine will only do the same thing, turn it on, the screen goes black, fan spins, stops then spins but does not stop at all.
I saw that there seems to be some issues with firmware updates on this machine as reported by other users:
There is also this video by HP which seems to indicate that it is a known issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sj6kYmT7GLs
And this once I add the serial number to the HP website then it also mentions the issue: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-250-g6-notebook-pc/15747807/document/ish_6881633-6881677-16
I have been through all of the steps outlined within the above document:
1) Perform a hard reset (done)
2) Connect an external monitor to test the screen (external display does not detect signal on HDMI)
3) Recover the notebook BIOS (see below - it doesn't ever enter the bios recovery)
4) Reseat the memory modules (done, swapped the 2 modules around)
I then found the following page which indicates the procedure for manual BIOS recovery: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/ish_3932413-2337994-16
I installed the firmware onto a USB in order to do a manual bios recovery using firmware version 70. I plugged in the USB disk, held the windows key and b on the keyboard then pressed the power button for 2-3 seconds then continued to hold down windows key and b for a further 3 seconds but it never seems to enter into the recovery screen.
I have tried versions 68, 69, 70, 71 and 72, a range of USB disks with different sizes and from different manufacturers, for instance Transcend, Sandisk, Kingston and others but I never get into a recovery screen I only ever get the same situation where the screen goes black, the fan starts up, stops and starts again but nothing else happens, even after waiting for 5-10 minutes. The power icon is solid white on the right front side of the machine which shows that it is powered on, there is no disk activity light flickering at all. The capslock key light does not come on or off if I press it.
All I did was update the firmware and I truly regret ever trying to do that now. Is there any possible way to recover this machine from the current state so that it can be used again?
