Did an update from Windows Update, Advanced Options, Optional Updates,

"HP Inc. - Firmware - 15.11.0.0" was listed. I tried to install this. PC rebooted and had this "Please wait while we install a system update" message on the screen. Disk Activity but no other action. Never rebooted, never completed. I waited 45 minutes and finally pushed power button until system shut down. On reboot system came up to Windows 11.  After shutdown and restart, I again received the same "Please wait while we install a system update" error. I could not uninstall this update from the Windows 11 update history screen. See Device Manager screenshot above - Firmware failed to update during last attempt. How do I fix this?? ty

Hi@RBHomeUser,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing issues with the HP Envy Notebook not booting to windows stuck at the error window. I apologize for the Inconvenience.

The BIOS can be corrupted during normal operation from a failed BIOS upgrade, or damage from a virus.

Recover the BIOS using a key press combination.

Turn off the computer. Press and hold the Windows + b keys, and continue to press those keys while you press and hold the power button for 2 to 3 seconds. Release the power button, but continue pressing the Windows + b keys.

The power light remains on, and the screen remains blank for about 40 seconds before anything is displayed. You might hear a series of beeps (usually 8 beeps). Eventually, an HP BIOS Update screen is displayed and the BIOS update begins automatically.

NOTE: If the HP BIOS Update screen is not displayed, press and release the power button, and then immediately press the Windows + b keys at the same time, repeatedly, until the computer beeps or opens the HP BIOS Update screen.

After the BIOS is recovered, a Continue Startup button is displayed and a timer counts down. Click the Continue Startup button to restart the computer immediately, or wait for the computer to restart automatically when the timer reaches zero.

If issue still persist then test the hard drive using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI to rule out other hard drive issues

  1. Start or restart the computer.
  2. Press F2 repeatedly during start up to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility.
  3. Select Component Tests > Hard Drive > Quick Test.
  4. Click Run Once.

Once the test completes, results are displayed on the screen.

If the drive passes all tests, continue to restore a computer back to the factory default, which will isolate whether it’s a software or hardware issue.

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

If the issue still persists then it is a hardware issue. As we have limited support boundaries in the support community as of now. I would request you to contact our HP Support Engineers and should be able to sort this out.

Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service/replacement options.

Update. PC reboots and loads windows, but going to Device Manager yields the same unstable state:

Read on PCMag https://www.pcmag.com/news/hp-patches-bios-vulnerabilities-affecting-over-200-laptops-workstations that HP issued bios updates for 200 laptops due to major vulnerability. When I go to HP product Support Page, HP does NOT list Windows 11 as an option. PC is less than 3 years old but it appears to have been orphaned.

I also spoke with Microsoft and they said that I had to contact HP for support of this firmware update.

I used the Windows Key + B key combination. The PC went into bios recovery mode. It checked the bios and said it was okay and it then tried to install that update via the Bios update screen. The PC reported that the bios update failed & the bios was corrupted (i believe, i am trying to do this from memory) The PC did not hang on the "wait while we install a system update" screen - it took only a minute. Here is an updated device manager screen shot:

RBHomeUser_0-1652702194929.png

Before doing all this i tried running hardware diagnostics and got caught in another loop. HP reported a new version of UEFI tool was available. I downloaded and installed it. I ran it and I got the exact same screen saying a new version was available.

I ran HP Support Assistant to see if there were any updates, it said that there were none. The original update i tried to install came from Windows Update. Windows Update reports my system is up to date. Ty for your suggestions. I will try procedure again and this time I will try to take a picture of the steps, so i get the exact error messages. ty

Before shutting down I ran Windows File Explorer Drive Error Checking Tool and received no errors - see below:

Computer Management Disk Management reports all drive partitions are healthy.

Did the esc F2 diag option. Ran Diags, went into BIOS Management, selected Bios Update and HP reported that the "BIOS image was not available."

Ran hard drive test quick test - passed wear level 2%

HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI reported "Your current version of diagnostics is not up to date." broken record

Device manager in Windows now reports everything is okay see elow:

So case is closed.

"broken record" means repeating the same message over and over again.

I tried all of above but nothing helps...

Product: HP ENVY - 17-Ce1005nb
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11

Received a firmware update 15.11.0.0, trying to install and get this message "Please wait while we install a system update  ".... it takes forever so I stopped and reboot the pc...in Device manager now this firmware update got a yellow exclamation asking to restart...when done same result...( tried several times and finally I revert to previous version 15.4.0.0 that is working fine).  I guess it is a wrong update or any solutions to fix it?

Note: bios is not corrupted and all test in HP diagnostics UEFI utility passed ok.

Is this laptop purchased in march 2021( laptop having a 10th gen I5 core ) already too old??????

PS: after several restarts, system firmware in device manager says:"

5/22/22: Today received new bios update ( F11)...after installing I could upgrade system firmware in device manager to 15.11.0.0--> problem finally solved

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Indicates a revision number encountered or specified is not one known by the service. It may be a more recent revision than the service is aware of."

I have not received a bios update yet. I continue to run Windows Update, HP Support Assistant and Device Manager. None has listed an update. I am still on a 12/25/2019 dated bios Firmware version F070000
