HP Pavilion TouchSmart 15
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

When I boot my pc i get "Selected boot image did not authenticate press <enter> to continue"

What i've done.

1.) Did a system restore point to a time that worked

2.) Tried refreshing the pc but it says my drive is locked

3.) ran a chkdsk via command prompt

4.) Disabled secure boot and enabled legacy support ( all this does prompt a new message "No Bootable device -- Insert boot disk and press any key"

5.) I've also done the full reset as well by removing the power and battery holding in the power button for 30 seconds. Still no fix.

Note:

I do not want to reformat my PC unless its 100% necessary, also this is a preinstalled windows notebook

Model: HP Pavilion TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC

please assist. Thank you .

Hi @treebeered,

Thanks for becoming a member of the HP Support Forums. I understand you are having an issue with an errror "Selected boot image did not authenticate press enter". I will be glad to help you.

Was anyone playing with the BIOS?

In the BIOS, disable secureboot and enable legacy boot mode.

  • Reboot the notebook and press F10 until the BIOS loads.
  • Check both the "boot options" and "secure boot configuration" sections for the ability to disable Secure Boot and enable Legacy Boot Support.
  • Disable Secure Boot and enable Legacy Boot Support.
  • Save the changes and reboot the notebook.
  • Verify whether the issue is resolved and post the result.
