Hello HP team and community,

I forgot the BIOS Administrator password / Power On Password on my HP laptop.

Details:

- Laptop model: *[HP EliteBook 840 G3]*

- Product number: >Do not include the product serial number or any private information.<

Symptoms:

- When turning on the laptop, the prompt "Enter Administrator Password" or "Enter Power On Password" appears.

- I've tried entering the password I remember, but it keeps getting wrong.

- After 3 incorrect password entries, the "System Disabled" screen appears with the code *[Enter the full code here, for example: i 53283695 or 48290163 or [i 7A3B9C2D]]*.

- System Disabled Code: *[Paste the exact code from the screen, including the "i" if present, or letters/square brackets]*

Tried:

- Enter a blank/default password several times → still asking for the password.

- Press F7 for HP SpareKey (if it appears) → but I don't remember the answer to the security question.

- Remove the main battery and charger, press the power button for 30–60 seconds → after turning it back on, the BIOS password is still there.

- Can't enter BIOS setup (F10) at all because it's locked by the password.

Background:

- I set this password myself some time ago, but forgot to write it down.

- The laptop still functions normally if the password is correct, but now it won't enter the BIOS or boot further if the power-on password is active.

- There have been no recent hardware/software changes before this issue.

Please help:

- Is there a way to generate a master password from the System Disabled code above?

- Or is there an official HP reset without replacing the motherboard?

- If necessary, I'm ready to follow further instructions.

Thank you very much for your help!
