Hi, I could use some advice.
The right hinge on my HP 17z laptop is broken. It is slowly splintering into tiny pieces. If I took a picture of it, it would look normal, but there's a small crunching sound when I move the screen, and tiny plastic shards on my desk. The bezel right above the hinge is also now pushing out from the screen a little. I didn't drop it or damage it; I am guessing there was a crack in there that got bigger, and now the hinge is slowly coming apart.
I can open and close the laptop, but I'm afraid to, so I only use the "Sleep" mode to temporarily power down. Everything (but the hinge) on the laptop works fine.
I bought it in July 2017, 13 months ago, so frustratingly the laptop has broken when just 1 month out of warranty.
There are is so much good and bad advice on the web about how to handle this, so I thought I'd ask HP users.
What do you think? Do I attempt to buy parts and repair myself? Bring it in somewhere?
Thanks!
