I want to add ram to my HP Notebook-14s-cf0042tx ram. Currently 4 gb . Add in 8 gb

Should I buy ram with 2666 MHz or 2400 MHz?

Can I mix 4 gb and 8 gb?

Which is faster 4 gb + 4 gb or 4 gb + 8 gb?

No. It will work and you will have 12 gigs of memory.

See p. 40:

Use DDR4-2400. That is what you have and while DDR4-2666 would likely work (downclocked to -2400 speed) its best not to mix speeds if you can help it.

As for 4 + 4 or 4 + 8 the answer is it depends. For most people 8 gigs is plenty and the actual bandwidth  of 4 + 4 is a bit better because of "dual channel" effect. But if you do memory intensive tasks and run out of RAM you will slow down and hit the paging file if the system is trying to use more than 8 gigs. In that case,  the system uses the hard drive/SSD as memory and that is much slower.

My advice to most users is to go with dual channel (4 + 4).

Will there be any problem if I proceed to use 4 gb + 8 gb?

Tks
