Hi,

I previously asked the question (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Max-RAM-Supported-by-HP-ab-219...and according to the answer there got an ADATA DDR3L 1600 Mhz SODIMM module (https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B00BO6O2W6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

But after inserting the RAM and rebooting, total memory I can see is still 8GB.

In an attempt to locate the problem, I checked the Total memory in BIOS in the following configurations (Existing RAM module was manufactured by Hynix 8GB, plugged in Slot 1)

a) Slot 1: Hynix Slot 2: ADATA    -> Result : 8 GB

b) Slot 1: ADATA Slot 2: Hynix    -> Result : 8 GB

c) Slot 1: ADATA Slot 2: Empty    -> Result :Didn't boot, Caps Lock kept blinking

d) Slot 1: Empty Slot 2: ADATA    -> Result : Didn't boot, Caps Lock kept blinking

e) Slot 1: Empty Slot 2: Hynix      -> Result : 8GB.

As a result, I am concluding that the new ADATA RAM module I got is faulty. It is not a seating problem given the number of configurations I've tried.

Please tell me if I am missing something.

Thanks in advance.

Hi:

I believe you have done a great job concluding that the ADATA memory module is defective, or not compatible.

RMA the chip and get another one.  If it does the same thing, then you can conclude the memory is incompatible with your notebook.

Buy a compatible Crucial module instead...the first one on the list should be fine.

Or see if this one would work since it is for HP notebooks and is PC3L-12800...
