Just happened to me. I’ve had mine since last July and it’s just now starting to do this. Is there any major issue in doing the method you suggested. Can I still play games with my laptop closed via monitor or will it have to stay open now?

If you disconnect the ribbon cable and close the lid the laptop wont know that you have closed the lid
Just keep in mind doing this will void your warranty if hp finds out thats how they voided my warranty.
HP is the worst they dont acknowledge this problem they have a temporary solution to replace the motherboard with the same faulty designed motherboard that will eventually have this problem again.

I have the same issue as you mentioned...
The laptop works fine all the things other than games when i play some AAA titles like forza 5 or other games the laptop some turns blank with no light on the power button and no other key are working it is happening on the temperature around 70c but sometimes 80c also. Searched all the internet for the solution and even reset my laptop uninstall and reinstall all the cpu and gpu drivers nothing helps. At first I think that this issue is due to overheating because in our location on may there are severe heatwaves but on the other hand 70c is quite normal thermals for a 140watt 4060. Then I contacted the hp customer service and they sent an on site engineer to my location they checked my laptop open it up and says that the motherboard is dead and need a motherboard replacement. Then i come across the reddit post https://www.reddit.com/r/HPOmen/comments/1bmgwkc/hp_omen_16_2023_motherboard_black_screen_dead/
and tried the steps and the laptop magically turns on.
HP should acknowledge it and recall my unit as well as all the unit or upgrades to a newer motherboard layout or give us refund.

Sorry to hear that Robert.
If your information is misleading, could we please demand an official statement from HP regarding this issue? So, we are not mislead?
This thread was created on 5th March 2024, 3 months exactly. Is an HP representative ever going to respond here?
This is an official HP forum site, isn't it? Or are we being mislead by a company pretending to be HP?

True i spoke with reddit mod that banned me they thought i was misleading information since they thought it only affected intel version so i needed to show them proof that some hp unit also are affected since i have help couple of eople with hp units. HP will never respond they dont care worst customer support ever i hope that a big youtube will expose them or any news site or a lawsuit unacceptable for a big international company to ignore such a big issue

HP may think they're smart playing this game, but I wonder how many buyers would buy HP again after that. I sold my laptop ASAP and won't buy another one - home pc, gaming laptop, printer... nothing! There're many other brands to buy from, no problem at all 😉
