HP Envy
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a new HP Envy (June 2018). When the laptop is fully charged to 100% and plugged in to the power supply, the system after a few minutes indicates that it is running on battery and the light on the side of the laptop adjacent to the power plug shuts off, it will then discharge down to the critical level of 9% and shut the laptop off. When charged again to 100% the system again repeats the process and the battery discharges.

What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824

(Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

I have a few steps listed below that should help you resolve this concern:

  • Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.
  • Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.
  • Reinstalled the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager,
  • Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

Also, perform a BIOS update following steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01684768 and perform Power Reset

Then, use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu. To the run the battery test.

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

  3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.

Selecting Component Tests from the main menu

  4. The Component Tests menu displays.

Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.

Sample List of the Component tests

Power Tests - There are several power tests available, the Power Source Test, the AC Adapter Test, and the Battery Test. Use the Power Source option to check both the battery and AC adapter, or use the two individual tests to check each of them separately.

  • Power Source Test - The Power Source Test checks your system to make sure the power sources, both the battery and the AC adapter, are functioning properly.

To run the test, click Run once. The Power Source test time is 4 minutes. Battery Calibration time is 2 to 4 hours.

  • AC Adapter Test - The AC Adapter test provides an interactive test to determine if the AC power adapter is functioning properly. A good battery is required for this test. Before running the AC Adapter Test, HP recommends verifying that your computer can receive power by connecting a known working AC adapter.

To run the test, click Run once. The test takes 2 minutes to run.

  • Battery Test - The Battery Test checks your system to make sure that the battery is functioning properly. It tests the battery and allows you to run the calibration.

The Battery Check test time is 2 minutes. Battery Calibration time is 2 to 4 hours.

To run the test and for battery information, follow the steps in Battery Test.

Let me know how it goes with the battery test.

Keep me posted!

Have a great day:)

Flower_Bud Thank you for the information.

Looking good at the moment "no battery discharge while on power".

The Microsoft ACPI seemed to be causing the issue, my bios was on the latest release.

Many Thanks
