I have a problem similar to this one

I installed the recommended bios from HP site through HP Assitant: F.41 during late April, after resetting my battery charged to 92 and stopped. Sometimes it stopped at lower percentages.

Followed this instructions and others but, at best, it would just charge to 92, ocasionally getting stuck at lower numbers.

I was convinced by reading these forums that it was just a nominal value, that the real value was always the same, the only difference is that now it was more accurate.

But now it's stuck at 2% with a red led blinking whenever I turn it on. If it is plugged and turned off it's just normal white led indicating charge as usual. If turned on, Windows will automatically shut down if I unplug the AC connector and the Laptop turns off.

I read these

It seems HP is intentionally breaking equipment so we purchase new one.

I'm sure the battery is ok. Windows was updated to 2004 some weeks ago and it doesn't seem to be the issue. The "not charging" problem is previous, and this "2%" is more recent. Besides, the Notebook won't charge or stay on if unpluged even in UEFI, so I don't think it's the SO though I can try a clean instal.

Run some UEFI tests, on May 14 it PASSED GOOD both in UEFI and HP maintenance app in Windows.

Now yesterday

I have a brand new SSD on a shelf waiting for me to install it and I want to find a solution to this first.

Is it safe to do a BIOS roll back?

Hi @Ryoga- ,

You own a 2015 model year notebook.

Batteries are warrantied for one year across the battery manufacturing industty. The average notebook owner probably gets three years out of a battery. You are on your fourth or fifth year. Your battery has reached the end of its service life if has been used in excess of three years. That is why it is giving you problems. It has nothing to do with the bios.

I suggest you replace the battery with a new compatible unit.

If your notebook has a uefi bios environment, it is safe to rollback the bios.

Yes, I knew I'd read something like that, and I also think that maybe, just maybe, this is an extremely unlucky sum of coincidences, for example, battery starting to give errors just the moment the BIOS update ended (which I made recommended by HP and through it's HP Assistant), or finding thread of people with the exact same inconvenience.

My Notebook is a backup equipment I have at home, yes, it is old, but I rarely take it away and it doesn't have many hours of use and recharge cycles.  I'll look into my HD SMART to see it's real time of use. I did all hardware tests prior to buying my new RAM and SSD to be sure if I wanted to invest in upgrading this one or getting a new one. They all passed, both from UEFI interface and HP Assistant.

Complaining about this is no more of use anyway. So, I'll try first to install an offline clean Windows pre 2004 version and then (if that doesn't work) rollback the BIOS which my UEFI offers as an option.

Thanks Erico!

It was just coincidental that it happened when you installed the BIOS update.

None of that is going to help. Think "time to replace the battery" if your time is valuable to you and others

Thanks Erico!

You're welcome

Roughly 1500 hours of use, never used for gaming, video editing, graphics design, etc, just basic tasks. Plus it just presented problems after the update, prior to that it always worked fine, it passed all the tests and it had practically the same autonomy that it had always had. Don't take it bad, I appreciate your time and your opinion, I just don't agree. I wanted to know if rolling back could bring me issues, I am really worried that HP can brick my Laptop with features they offer. I'll update later when I get to it.
