Good morning,
Wanted to ask, what's the best way to identify what motherboard i need, to replace the existing motherboard that has gone bad, without having to dismantle the laptop just yet?
Thank you in advance

@ggomez Welcome to HP Community!
I suggest you visit the service and maintenance guide to obtain the details you need: click here to access the file,
And here's what you need:
- Part: Intel Core i7-6500U processor 940M 2 GB
- Universal Part number: 829070-001
If you wish to replace the part on your own, visit the same link as mentioned above and check page. 49 - Component replacement procedures.
Although, HP doesn't recommend you do as it may end up damaging other components inside the device, unless you are a trained professional, I suggest you talk to HP if your device is still under warranty, there shouldn't be any charges to fix the motherboard replacement/repair.
I hope that answers your query,
