Broken Laptop Hinge

Hi - I wonder if anyone can advise me if the problem I am experiencing is fixable by me, at home?  For a while I've heard creaking noises from the right hand hinge on my laptop.  Recently it appears to have become so stiff it has snapped off two screw retaining plastic mouldings from the top of the hinge, i.e. the bit attached to the screen.  These sheared mouldings have fallen out of the gap which has opened up with screws still intact. I really have to leave it open permanently now as attempting to open or close the lid is wrenching the screen surround away, bit by bit.  Does anyone know if this is a user fixable issue? I have seen some online videos but they seem to refer to different hinge types.
