HP Spectre x360 - 13 - 4004dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Like many others I see in the forum, I have recently noticed my trim little HP Spectre's keyboard and touchpad bulging up.  Until I read similar posts in the forum, I thought it was "innocent" warping due to heat or somesuch.  Now I'm really concerned about the battery and don't want it doing anything dangerous (like blowing up or combusting) while in flight or at night or whatever.  It still holds a charge ok, but have a safety concern.  I know my PC is out of warranty, so how can I fix this?  Was there ever a recall for this?  Any advice / links would be appreciated.

Thanks.

@digitalwei

You are welcome.

When a moderator answers a thread for the purpose of escalation, that thread (group of posts in a single subject) is usually locked.  Locking has naught to do with the poster's status / ranking in the Community.  I can unlock it and may do so to add the information I am posting here.  We do not usually conduct questions / answers in the background since the benefit of sharing the information is lost when communicating privately. (Private Messages are, well, private.)

Escalation of this type (by the moderator) means that your concern will be passed along to HP.  The catch is that this method of catching the attention of HP (through our community as opposed to submitting a case directly to the tech support group) is frequently slower (four days is typical).  This is not because HP does not care - this is simply that we are not HP Technical Support. Tagging HP from within the community is simply not the same thing as contacting HP Technical Support directly.

I found your computer model in a check against this Series:

Product:  M0F87AS

You can verify this information by checking the information I found against the information on your computer.

Find

Website Support for your model series:

HP Spectre 13-4000 x360 Convertible PC

The lack of specificity (exact model) is not a concern - all these models in this series are similar.  Any differences would be a matter of available features.

Partsurfer - General How-to

 Open PartSurfer

  • Select your Country
  • Need Help?  Tab Self help > find and open the User Guide and FAQ

Use Part Surfer:

  • Enter your device Product Number , Serial Number, or Part Number in the Quick Search box
  • HINT: To see a system-specific list, replace the Product Number with your device Serial Number
  • Items accompanied by a tiny box in the Add-to-Cart column are available for purchase
  • N/A means the part is not carried / offered for purchase by HP.

Parts marked as available for purchase might be available from:  HP Parts Store

OR

Use your search engine to find the part number at your favorite online store.

The results show that the part is normally available but is currently on backorder.

We (our community) have absolutely no internal access to Parts or Service and cannot say when / if the part will be available.

The original statement about contacting HP Technical Support is valid - contact HP Support > provide the necessary information, explain the problem, ask for options / help.  Although there is no way to know whether HP would cover the costs (perhaps not), if you want HP to fix the computer (regardless), mention that you are willing to pay for service.  Generally, unless something else in the computer is damaged, battery replacement is not considered one of the catastrophic issues (will not cost a bunch of money to repair).

From what I have read, the situation is not dangerous (no expected explosion) - it is certainly serious, though, and requires your attention to resolve the issue > replace the battery.

Reminders

  • Use the serial number of the device to submit the case (do not post that information on the Community).

  • Chat is not available in every region. In those areas where Chat is an option, Chat service hours are likely restricted.  In the event that Chat is not available in your region:  Call the number provided in the HP directory, else submit your case online (to receive phone contact information)

  • HP will advise you there is a fee for phone support and / or other services when your computer / device is no longer under warranty.  This is normal business practice.

  • HP may tell you that certain services are not covered under warranty.  This is normal business practice.  Standard Warranty typically covers specific hardware issues as explained in the Warranty contract. Care Pack coverage and warranties differ by package.

  • If the HP Contact (phone) number is not immediately provided:  Contact information is displayed on your screen after you submit your case online.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
