So here is my issue. All of a sudden my cpu seems to be getting overheat|(96-99 celsius). After trying many things and nothing worked i asked for the help of an expert. He came up with the same conclusion that the fan of the laptop is perfectly working and it produces cool air and the laptop itself is not hot at all when you touch it although u get an 65celsius on idle and 99 even when you run google chrome. So after all this he told me that the problem has to be on the heating censors which are giving higher values on temperature than the real ones. And all this make my cpu throttle even when i run chrome as i said although the laptop is not even hot and the fans are working perfectly. He said the only way to fix it is to replace the motehrboard which is not worth because it costs a lot.Do you have any other proposal?

@ilias21 Greetings from the HP Community!

Click here for steps to resolve overheating issues, you could try reducing the resolution and switch the windows settings to performance rather than visual effects to make a minor change, hence make sure you are using a cooling pad as well, to be on a safer side.

Here's how you change windows settings:

  • Go to Start Menu > click on Settings.
  • Type performance > choose to Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.
  • In the new window, go to the Visual Effects and select Adjust for best performance.
  • click Apply and Ok...this should do the trick.

I must let you know that its normal for certain devices to heat up to 100°C as the CPU supports the same, the fans installed on the device would eventually cool it down, that said, for accurate description of the CPU and the heat it supports for your device, here's what I need:

I am sorry for saying that but did you even bother to read what i wrote?Where did i mention any game?I said my Laptop is getting 99celsius even when i run chrome and its around 60-65 when am not doing literally anything. After checking it with an expert and seeing that the air comming out of the fan is cool he said that it has to be a heating censor problem on the motherboard. Is tehre any way to replace that or do i have to replace the whole motherboard?

@ilias21 I know it looks bad, but I did read your post, its just that I seem to have jumped the gun a bit, assuming that the issue occurred due to a game, and I should have known better, my bad, that said, I have updated my post and if you haven't done it yet, please update the BIOS, and windows 10 updates, if that doesn't do the trick, I suggest you run a hardware test using the below steps to identify the issue:

Install the latest version of the HP Hardware diagnostics (UEFI) on your device using this link: Click here for details

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  • On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
  • Click Extensive Test.
  • Click Run once, or Loop until error.
  • While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.

If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond back to us.

i have done the test before but let me update my windows 8.1 to 10 and check again....Is it free?|f it is could you send me the link to download windows 10.About bios i think i have the latest version at least 1 week ago that i checked

Edit:Did the test everythjing passed bios are fine upgraded to windows 10 and nothing changed.

What if the problem is the heating censor showing always +20++ just as the tech told me?(not from hp service).Do i have to change the whole motherboard just like he recommended or is there any other solution?

I mean....even the gpu is on 60 celsius+ without playing any game at all........

P.S. Obviously i have dont all the typical things like cleaning the fan putting thermal paste etc, etc.

@ilias21 You mean, you've "done" all the typical things like cleaning...etc...right? If yes, and I know i'm not wrong to assume this, I suggest you verify if you've done each and every step from the article I shared earlier, here's the article again, in case you missed it, and if you've completed the checklist, although, the issue persists, we may be looking at a hardware malfunction as the other tech mentioned and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

here's how private messages work: Click here for details.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
