I want to upgrade my hard drive as it's too limited to run very many programs. Can I?

Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
Chapter 1 has the supported drive types.
You have two options...
1. Replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).
2. Install a M.2 NVMe SSD in the empty M.2 SSD slot and either remove the 1 TB hard drive or use it for storage.
A NVMe SSD provides faster read/write speeds than SATA SSD's do.

If you want to go with the same size storage as the 1 TB mechanical hard drive, here is the M.2 NVMe SSD I recommend...
If you want to swap out the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD, this is the one I recommend...
