Hi - hope somebody can help.
My internal DVD writer refuses to work. It will not allow me to burn any data to a blank disc. All I can get is a massive vibration and the same whirring noise pattern over and over again. I have just popped an audio CD into the tray to see if that would still work and it played fine, so it must be a writing mechanism problem. When I look in the hp store all I can see to replace it is an external DVD writer at £31.99. Ideally I would just like to replace the defective writer with a new internal one.
I am struggling to find a "route" to contacting hp in order to find out if a replacement internal unit is still available so that I can order one.
Cheers

Hi:
According to chapter 3, page 26 of the service manual, the replacement part you need is:
For use in HP Notebook models HP Part # 813952-001
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04653884
Looks like you can find that part on eBay pretty reasonably.
