I use my notebook on AC power only. I do not use the battery.
It now shows a message about low battery power when I start it up. Yesterday, it began to have a blinking yellow light next to the power socket - even when plugged into an electric outlet.
1) Can I continue to use the notebook via electric outlet only?
2) Will I lose any data if the battery completely dies - even when connected to the AC outlet?

Hi @Bluebird413
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It’s understandable to be concerned about your HP Notebook - 15-ba053nr running on AC power alone. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what you need to know:
1) Can You Use the Laptop on AC Power Only?
Yes, you can continue using your laptop without a battery, but there are some considerations:
- Power Stability: If the power supply is interrupted (e.g., a sudden outage or unplugging), the laptop will shut down immediately without warning.
- Performance Impact: Some HP laptops reduce performance when running without a battery to prevent overheating or power fluctuations.
- BIOS Settings: Some HP models may require a BIOS update or configuration change to work properly without a battery.
2) Will You Lose Data If the Battery Completely Dies?
No, your stored data on the hard drive or SSD will remain intact. However:
- Sudden Shutdowns: If the laptop loses power unexpectedly, any unsaved work will be lost.
- File Corruption Risk: If the laptop shuts down during a system update or while writing files, there’s a risk of data corruption.
- BIOS and CMOS Settings: Some HP laptops rely on battery power to retain BIOS settings. If the battery is completely dead, you may need to reconfigure BIOS settings after every shutdown.
Additional Steps to Consider
- Disable Battery Warnings: If the low battery warning is annoying, you can disable it in BIOS settings.
- Check HP Support for AC-Only Mode: HP’s official support page for your model may have specific guidance on running the laptop without a battery. You can check here.
- Monitor the Blinking Yellow Light: A blinking yellow light near the power socket usually indicates a battery issue or power adapter problem. If the laptop works fine on AC power, you can ignore it, but if you experience shutdowns, consider replacing the adapter.
