Drivers for WIFI and ethernet for my HP Pavilion g series laptop

Hi,

If the wireless driver is installed, Windows should have this wireless icon on the taskbar. Click it and select a wireless network to join.

If the icon is not visible, double check that the Wireless adapter is shown in Windows Control Panel / Network Connections.

I installed driver SP71421 and after installation it muttered about WIFI being disabled by Windows Mobility Centre.  My laptop has no battery at present but runs off the mains - is this relevant?

I then tried Jupitero's latest suggestion but Control Panel > Network Connections does not exist on my laptop

Hi,

In Control Panel:

1. select Large Icon View

2. Go to Networking and Sharing Center

3. Click the Change adapter settings link on the left side.

If you only see the wired connection, your wireless drivers are not properly installed.

In that case, go to the Control Panel again, and go to Device Manager.

Under the Other Devices category you should find devices with yellow exclamation on their icon. All these devices here are something that will require a driver to work.

At this point you can either:

1. Check Windows Update for automatic driver installation for wireless network; or

2. Check the device ID (of all these devices with missing drivers) to identify the wireless network maker and model, and select the proper wireless driver as instructed in earlier messages on this thread.

Windows Update unfortunately does not have all drivers. When you check the Windows Update, the driver may be an optional update so check those updates as well:

Jupitero, I went through all these steps finishing with optional windows updates. Some of these failed - don't know which - but I rebooted Windows anyway. WIFI still does not work although as I posted earlier today, the WIFI then seemed to be blocked by something rather than not being installed then...

After lengthy random installing of various WIFI drivers, I now have the Realtek one installed under network adapters  according to device manager.

The WIFI light on the keyboard is white. Still not working. Device Manager has PCI Device still under Other Devices. Does this matter? and if so where do I find its correct driver?

HP Connection Manager says the Wired LAN is connected but the wireless LAN isn't.

I was able to enter the password for the house  WIFI. Somehow...

The WIFI is actually working, not sure what I did.... I pulled out the ethernet cable - leaving WIFI only source of Internet - and chrome was able to download a virus checker. So somehow with all the help(s) above, PROBLEM SOLVED. Thanks to all

HOWEVER!

I have now discovered that the laptop cannot see the CD/DVD drive. Wrong driver again? - Hardware is HP DEV RAM UJ8B1 ATA device.

Again - help!

DVD/CD problem solved by uninstall and reboot.
