My Elan touchpad on my 15" pavilion laptop is unreliable.  It starts out ok when I turn the laptop on but soon gets unresponsive or does unexpected things like resizing when I use one finger and not clicking when I press down.  There was an identical issue handled by Jeet_singh on 11/9/2018 but he finished the resolution in a private email exchange so I cannot see the solution.  Please help me.  Thanks.

Is this solution what worked for the other person who had the exact same problem?  I would like to try that solution first.  What is that solution?

Hello @douglasharris

These steps are necessary because your notebook model does not officially support Windows 11, so we have to try it.

Please perform steps (1) to (6) and report back

The touchpad now works worse that before.  I accidentally  the installed both drivers before the reboot and test.  After the second driver the left mouse button was effectively stuck down.  I reinstalled the first driver and rebooted.  Now there is no click ability.  I can't feel the touchpad click.  I used to be able to feel it click even when the laptop was off, but I cannot feel that now, on or off.  I think the touch pad hardware needs to be replaced.  What do you think?

Ok.  I did all that.  There is still no tactile click.  (The click was there when I first turned on the laptop before reading your last message, but the mouse was jumping all over the place.  The good new is that now, for the moment, at least the pad is responding normally. and now, testing again, the click is back.  It's just a bit sluggish to pop back up after depressing.  I can live with that.  Let's see how long it lasts.  Thanks for all your help.  Can we keep this thread open for a while in case it stops working again?

Can you help me with another thing?  When I turn om my laptop I get a message that the battery is not working right and my need replacement.  If fact, it goes dead very quickly.  I keep the laptop on the charger all the time.  I used to keep the laptop on all the time too.  Now, the last several months, I've been turning the laptop off but still keeping the powered charger connected.  Is there anything I can do to rejuvenate my battery?  It looks like I would have to take the laptop apart to replace it.

You're welcome !

Yes, observe the touchpad's function for a while and report if you are satisfied with the result. I assume that this is a quality defect that cannot be solved "in the long run" by waving a magic wand or installing a driver.

Good luck
