I've bought a new notebook: EliteBook 1040 14" G9.

I've downloaded and installed the firmware updates (the last of 14th February 2023).

The fan continuously run and it is very noisy. I've a dual boot, Windows 10 and Linux and this issue arises in both operating systems.

It''s not possible that this PC has this issue, it's very annoying...

How can I resolve this issue?

Hi! Unfortunately it IS possible that this laptop has a noise issue. Way possible. There's an ongoing discussion about this in the HP forum, and no solution has been found....yet. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-Notebooks/Elitebook-1040-G9-noisy-fan-in-low-CPU-load/td-p/84...

It's a shame that the February firmware revision has done nothing to remedy the situation......

But... will HP resolve it or I have to change the notebook?

Of course also changing the vendor...

Thanks!

These are good questions. I'm guessing here, but imho HP's laptop designers and technicians are hesitant to use more "peaceful" fan profiles, and instead prefer the fan to aggressively rev up from the very first minutes of the system's use, because the new AlderLake CPUs with their many cores pose a challenge for the thin laptops and their small heatsinks. Actually uploading a BIOS with a quiet fan algorithm is probably going to be the direct result of COMPLAINTSxUSERS.

I understand but one that buys this model, and I remember that is not cheap.., cannot tolerate this continuous and annoying noise. IMHO it's not possible to have this noise all the time the PC is on (and I remember again the cost of this notebook).

Can anyone from HP help us or explain this issue?

Will be fixed?

Thanks in advance.
