Ok, I did it!

But I have another question:

Is it possible to "clean" install Windows 10 on the new drive or I have to use the recovery partition that I found in the laptop?

HP Recommended

To open back cover I used a card like credit card

For "clean" installation of windows 10 you must have a pen drive or dvd with windows on them and after a valid license key, you can choose where install ...if on old or new drive.

If you use a partition recovery I don't think that you can choose the M.2, it's recover the same HDD but you can:

-clone 1TB HDD on M.2 SSD

-start system from M.2 from setting in the BIOS.

Bye

I'm really pissed by this notebook and I hope that someone by HP will read this post.

The backlight bleeding is present and strong.

On the top edge there are several lights and on the bottom right cornet the black is YELLOW because the light is very intense.

I brought back this laptop and take money back because in my opinion, it is unacceptable that a top level consumer laptop (hey, it's the envy series!) have such a defect!

I had the exact same problem of Simone_L. I returned the Notebook HP Envy and tried to change it with an other HP Envy but I had the same problem again. Finally I changed it with a notebook of other brand (Asus) and now I'm satisfied! I'm really disappointed by HP! :Crying:

@Giro, can you please make a screenshot of the motherboard list from Speccy?

I have the similar problem like you, I only have a little different model, Envy 15-k220nr.

User guide says

Internal card
● One half-size mini-card slot for WLAN
● One 2280 M.2 slot for solid state drives (select models only)

but I'm not sure if mine is "select model" 🙂

My Speccy page looks like

hp2.png

but I'm not sure if that "Available" PCI Express Slot 3 is M.2 slot for SSD.

Thanks for your help!

Hello 🙂

for first this is an image of my M.2 SATA SSD (Samsung 850 Evo 500GB)

I've installed OS on it and work as .....SATA3 drive.

@nepodmitljivi

I can't make a screenshot for now, but I think that your notebook not has an M.2 PCIe slot, it has "only" M.2 SATA slot with "B" key as mine, look my image 😉 ....as I know, your chipset HM87 does not support M.2 PCIe.

If it has a slot with "M" key, it is PCIe.

Your image is blank, blocked or something like that. I don't see it. 😞

I think that it must be approved, I've used "choose file" from my pc, not external link.
Only now I can see your Speecy, but not before that I written my last post.
I don't know why.... we need to wait...

But, repeat, I think that you have M.2 SATA.

Hello everybody!

I have the envy 15-ae100nl, and after some months with the standard 1Tb HDD (not fast enough), i want to buy a SSD.

2 questions:

1) is this ok?   i have to check only if it has SATA? how about dimensions?

http://www.amazon.it/Samsung-MZ-75E500B-EU-500G-Grigio/dp/B00P73B1E4/ref=pd_cp_147_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=...

2) how do i open the pc? i tried and failed (mostly because i was scared of damage it); precisely, i took off the screws, managed to open up the case on the right side, but on the left side (where the cd case is) i couldn't, it seemed only one piece with the whole cd case , which i couldn't extract. should i simply go stronger and more confident? or there is some trick?

Thank you!

In italian:

Ciao!

grazie!

That SSD is ok, the dimensions are standard, but I could buy this

It is the best solution: this SSD on M.2 slot for SO and 1TB for storage 😉

Look this mine

https://www.dropbox.com/s/x0pjejciu7iaq30/DSC_0485.JPG?dl=0

To open the case you must use a card like "credit card", on the back cover put it around the sides and rotate it from internal to external.
