I have a new machine. The fingerprint reader does not work, no lights, no response. I have uninstalled the device in device manager restarted and reinstalled it, still no response.
Looked for Simple Pass software but could not find it.
Where do I go from here?

Hey!
Did you uninstall the fingerprint driver in the Device Manager before?
To use the download that I am providing you with, you will have to uninstall the driver again.
- Open Device Manager
- Look for Biometric Devices
- Under Biometric Devices, look for the device (called Validity Sensor or AuthenTec Sensor)
- Right click on the Fingerprint Sensor
- Click Uninstall
- Restart your Notebook.
Here is a download for the Fingerprint scanner. This download sp71729.exe might work for you.
As a very last resort, you could try:
- The steps provided as a solution in the Validity fingerprint scanner not working on Windows 10 thread.
- Uninstalling HP SimplePass completely,

Hey @Charlierw,
Thank you for joining in on the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great place to ask questions, find solutions and get help from others in the community! I understand that the Finger print scanner on your HP ENVY Notebook - 17t-n100 CTO (ENERGY STAR) is not working correctly.
You had mentioned that you tried to troubleshoot already by uninstalling, restarting and reinstalling the device in device manager.
Have you tried to update the driver in the Device Manager? If not, please follow these steps:
- Open Device Manager
- Look for Biometric Devices
- Under Biometric Devices, look for the device (called Validity Sensor or AuthenTec Sensor)
- Right click on the Fingerprint Sensor
- Click Update Driver
- Restart your Notebook.
If that does not work, Make sure you delete the old fingerprints in SimplePass and enroll the new ones. Please go to:
- Control Panel
- Programs
- HP SimplePass
- Scroll down to Enroll Fingerprints
- Click and enroll your fingerprints.
If that does not help I would suggest uninstalling the fingerprint driver again and restarting your Notebook twice.
- Open Device Manager
- Look for Biometric Devices
- Under Biometric Devices, look for the device (called Validity Sensor or AuthenTec Sensor)
- Right click on the Fingerprint Sensor
- Click Uninstall
- Restart your Notebook twice.
Have you tried doing Windows Updates?
Have you tired to clean the fingerprint reader?
Have you tried to use the fingerprint reader in Safe Mode?
Have you done anything new lately? Downloaded new software?
There is a document called Troubleshooting a Fingerprint Reader. It has some troubleshooting steps that may be helpful to you including the ones above. If the steps above did not fix the issue you are having with your Fingerprint Reader, please try to follow the steps in the document in order.
Please let me know if I answered your question by clicking the 'Thumbs up' if the troubleshooting steps in this post resolved the issue for you please click the 'Accept as Solution'button. This will allow other's who have the same issue to find the solution also.

I tried updating the driver for the fingerprint sensor. It said I already had the latest driver.
I tried to run SimplePass but the software does not exist on this computer. Perhaps that is the problem.
How do I get the software?
Thanks.

I found SimplePass software to download on the HP site.
Windows 10 was not listed as an approved operating system for this software. I downloaded it and tried to install it anyway. The installation failed.
Still looking for SimplePass software that will run on Windows 10.
Thanks
