My HP victus has a gap on each side near the hinges that would not close and I just noticed one of the gaps produced a crack on the side with the screen. It has not received any trauma and there is no reason for it to be damaged like so. I am out of warranty and I don't know if I can continue like this or if it will get more damaged as time goes on.
