HP Envy 16 h1023dx

My HP Envy 16 h1023dx does not in any way recognize the RTX 4060 installed. It is not shown in task manager, in device manager, or in settings. It does not even show in HP PC Device Diagnostics.

In Control Panel I see I have Nvidia Graphics Driver 546.80 installed.

I tried updating the graphics drivers by downloading them from the Nvidia website, but they failed to install.

I tried downloading the Nvidia Drivers from the software and drivers section of support.hp.com. The program ran, a bar filled up, then the program closed and nothing happened. If I go into the folder, SWSetup, where the files were unzipped, and click HPUP.exe, nothing happens.

I heard I might need to enable the graphics card in the BIOS, but I could not find anything in the BIOS about graphics cards or PCI-E.

@Miigwan,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Here are a few troubleshooting steps for you to try:

1. Check Device Manager for Hidden Devices:

  • Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
  • Click View > Show hidden devices.
  • Look under Display adapters to see if the RTX 4060 is listed (even as an unknown device).

2. Check BIOS Settings:

  • Restart the laptop and enter BIOS (press Esc or F10 repeatedly during boot).
  • Look under Advanced or Configuration for any mention of "Discrete Graphics," "Hybrid Graphics," or "GPU settings."
  • If there's an option to switch from "Hybrid" to "Discrete," enable it.
  • If no such setting exists, it may be controlled automatically by Windows.

3. Perform a Clean NVIDIA Driver Installation:

  • Download Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) from Guru3D.
  • Run it in Safe Mode to remove all NVIDIA drivers.
  • Restart the laptop and install the latest drivers from NVIDIA's website.

4. Check Windows Update and HP Support Assistant:

  • Run Windows Update to check if any missing drivers are available.
  • Open HP Support Assistant and check for updates.
  • If an Intel GPU is present, update its drivers as well.

5. Check PCIe Connection Using HWInfo:

6. Perform an EC Reset (Hard Reset):

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Unplug the charger and any peripherals.
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect power and turn on the laptop.

If none of these steps work, the issue may be hardware-related, requiring HP support for further diagnostics.

Kind Regards,

What am I supposed to do with that once I download it?

Extract the .cab file into a folder, then open the device manager.

In the device manager, click the "Add drivers" icon and navigate to the folder where you extracted the .cab file.

This and nothing else has worked. I used DDU and now I have problem because still nothing works, so I just have no graphics drivers at all. HWInfo64 says the integrated GPU is disabled and the 4060 is installed, so I don't think there's a hardware issue. After using DDU, both game ready and studio Nvidia drivers still say cancelled, not compatible with system. The drivers from the HP support website also didn't install.

Read the explanation here about the error, it has to do with the registry. In fact, 3 other .inf that also do not match your hardware ID are installed, while the ones that do match are not.

In the article above there is a registry checker tool, CCleaner Professional Edition is also available.
