I want to add SSD to my 15 cc100tx laptop. I found a manual online which says under dual configuration I can only install 256GB SSD when I have a 1TB HDD. Is that true? What happens if I still went ahead and install a 500TB SSD?
Also, I'm interested to install a Samsung SSD. There are lot of 970 versions out there(Pro, Plus etc., I'm not sure exactly what their V-NAND technology is). It really helps if you can suggest the one that actually supports 15 cc100tx without any issues.

Its specs

It has 1 TB 5400 rpm SATA SSHD now. You can add M.2 SATA SSD drive to tour machine using

https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/860evo/
Or similar from reputable vendors.
One example (compatible drive, can use smaller/larger capacity)

Thanks for the reply. I believe my laptop has extra M2 SATA SSD slot. I don't want to completely replace my HDD, I'll still continue to use it. I just want to add SSD and then migrate my OS to it and then continue using my HDD for storage purposes.
My question is are there any size restrictions for the SSD I'm going to add. If so what are they? In the manual link I provided in my question it says under dual storage configuration I can install only 256GB SSD.

As I said above, you can add. That means you can use BOTH new M.2 drive and existing 2.5" HDD.

Hi, @Anurag-Reddy
If you prefer, that model also supports the faster NVMe M.2 drives.
See chapter 1 of the service manual...
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06525445
Solid-state drive:
For use only on computer models with model numbers 15-cc1xx and 15-cc6xx:
● 512-GB, 2280, Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe), Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe)
solid-state drive
● 256-GB, 2280, PCIe, NVMe solid-state drive
The Crucial memory/SSD report for your notebook's model series shows they offer compatible M.2 drives up to 2 TB.

Thanks for the reply @Pual_Tikkanen. In the same manual on Page 10, there are some dual storage configurations written. That says 1TB HDD can only be coupled with 128/256 GB SSDs. I want to add another 500GB SSD, will that be a problem? Because once I bought and installed it and it doesn't work. Then it's a waste of money for me.
I agree on crucial page they talked about support upto 2TB SSD, but they didn't mention anything about dual storage configuration setup.

You're very welcome.
You may want to ask this forum member that has the same model series as yours, who installed a M.2 NVMe SSD if he is running it with the 2.5" hard drive or just the SSD.

The manual says SSD with TLC.
I'm going to order this one: Samsung 860 Evo . Please review the item in the link and confirm.
Thanks for the extended support.
