I have an HP Pavilion 510 DT p024 and I will not read a brand new Samsung EVO 870 1TB SSD drive which tests fine in a different pc. Also, I swapped a 512GB drive from the other pc and it will not recognize that either.
unplugged the CD / DVD cable and plugged in the drive. Tested with an older 1TB Seagate non-SSD drive and both the factory 2TB Seagate drive and the second one run fine. The symptoms are you start the pc - i have BIOS messages enabled at boot then pres ESC key and see "Startup Menu" appear in the lower right corner and that is as far as things get.
It looks like HP crippled the use of SSD Drives. I even swapped the SATA cable from a different pc and tested the HP Sata cable in a different pc with an SSD drive and it works fine so it is not the cable.
