So there is no hope for HP or Microsoft to fix this issue. I will roll back to Anniversary version. Bye Creator!

Update from me...

  1. I downloaded the driver from the driver catalog: HP driver download from MS
  2. I extracted it to a local folder on the desktop
  3. I uninstalled the "HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor" device by going to the device manager and expanding system devices and right clicking to remove the driver entirely.
  4. After a few days and reboots later, I got the message that an update was ready.
  5. I ignored it, and when I came to close down Windows, I clicked the start menu
  6. Clicked on the power icon
  7. Pressed AND HELD DOWN the left shift button
  8. Click restart
  9. I kept the shift button pressed until I was presented with a menu I never knew existed.
  10. Under  "Troubleshoot your PC"
  11. Choose the advanced options
  12. Choose Startup Settings
  13. Click the restart button
  14. Press 7 (or F7 if nothing happens) for "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement"
  15. Windows Reboots
  16. Login as normal
  17. Go to the folder you extracted to in step 2 and open it
  18. Right mouse click on accelerometer.inf (or just accelerometer if you have file extensions hidden), choose Install
  19. It will ask you if you're sure that you want to install the driver as it has no digital signature, and you agree to that
  20. Wait... prbably about a minute or so
  21. It should say that the installation was successful in the end
  22. Reboot the PC as normal as this will enable the driver signature enforcement
  23. Bask in the glow of your wonderfullness as you will no longer have another error for this driver unless HP stupidly release another update without a digital signature when you'll have to go through all this again
  24. Curse HP for not fixing it
  25. Get a cup of tea, relax

Now, despite all the comments about who should fix it; HP should, not Microsoft. Microsoft store the HP driver in their catalog to push it to end users in Windows Update. HP are the ones that didn't release it properly. Also, this is not a solution I would say is easy to perform if you're not techie, ie think of your grandparents trying to do this. They will be well out of their league and comfort zone and simply won't bother.

Hi, i finally solved this problem on my pavilion 15 (bc-007nf) without only hiding it on windows update !

I manually installed the latest driver for 'hp mobile data protection sensor' and the faulty error on windows update has gone...

what I did in details :

1. I download the driver on hp support site : for my netbook it is sp81142.exe

2. execute this file and intall the driver. for me it installed version 6.0.20.1 and that did not solved the WU problem. (but that unpacked the file to c:\swsetup)

2. Go to device manager/system devices/Hp mobile data protection sensor

3. on Tab 'drivers' clic on update driver

4. choose 'browse my computer...'  and put that path :    C:\SWSetup\SP81142\RS2\InstallFiles\Win10   then clic on next...

This will install version 6.0.21.1 of the driver.

after install is complete the computer will ask to reboot do this.

After reboot, go to setting/windows update.....   et voila !     no more faulty driver in windows update.

I hope this solution will work for other people.

cheers.

ps : sorry if my english is not clear : i'm french   😉

Hello,

Wow that is complicated!  Is it all really required?

From what I understand from what you said is that the issue is that HP did not sign the update correctly.  Am i correct?

Also how did you know which driver was the one to work on?   I went into Device Manager and looked at that driver and tried to update it and it said that I already have the latest.   I would have thought that it would have tried to update it (and failed) to the version that "windows Update" is trying to install....

Hi,

I don't know why, but it seams that the driver file contains in fact 2 versions of the driver.

by default when you execute this file, it will install the version located in C:\SWSETUP\SP81142\INSTALLFILES\WIN10\ which correspond to version 6.0.20.1. This one works good but it is not the latest one so windows update still try to install its faulty version 6.0.21.1.

After searching a little, i found an other version located in C:\SWSetup\SP81142\RS2\InstallFiles\Win10 this one corresponds to the latest 6.0.21.1 which is the same as the one tried to be installed by windows update.

For what i understood, it is not a problem of driver being signed or not : it is just a newer version of the driver, both are signed (i had no warning about non signed version when i installed it).

I don't know why it is 'hidden' in the same driver pack as the other version...

to sum up a little :  SP81142.exe is said to be version 6.0.41.1 Rev.A on hp support site but installs by default version 6.0.20.1 and also contains version 6.0.21.1 hidden in it.   not easy to understand.

Thanks to @remi_3874

There is no need to execute the installer executable.

This executable is ony a packaging of files and folder, so it can be opened with a software like WinRar or 7-zip.

Navigate inside RS2\InstallFiles and extract the Win10 folder to a directory of your choice.

Now use that extracted folder to update the HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor driver.
