Hi,

I have one HP EliteBook 8540p Notebook PC

CPU i5 M540

Graphics NVIDIA NVS 5100

The NVIDIA Graphics card  this started failing, temporarily work around this is using it  without NVIDIA's driver.

I am up to try to activate CPU i5 M540 VGA and to remove the half-damaged  NVS 5100.

I did try to boot with out NVS 5100 connected, and the laptop does not boot.

There is a BIOS setting referring to PCI Express slot,  I did disable this option with NVS 5100 plugged in, but there is no INTEL Graphics activation instead.

I am stuck, there is no new  NVS 5100 replacement, and INTEL VGA seems unable to activate as stand-alone.

The Laptop has latest BIOS.

My question ... How to activate INTEL Graphics with out using the discrete NVS 5100?

Kalimera Kiriako!

This over a decade old generation of laptops didn't have switchable graphics for their Nvidia cards, which is the only way to ALSO use the Intel GPU when there is a discrete Nvidia graphics card installed. This feature was introduced a little later, as seen in Paul_Tikkanen EXPERT Level 21's comments here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/i-cannot-install-nvida-graphics-drive..., and also in the review of your model (8540p) by notebookcheck:

While HP EliteBook 8XXX series this is over a decade in the market, its a huge disappointment that HP blocked the activation of INTEL Graphics, and  additionally there is no availability of NVS 5100 as new.

I can find used parts, but I am technician my self,  I have the awareness that soldering under NVIDIA chips this fails, and then the stability of the card fails.

Within EU there is not any high-end reballing equipment,  and no one can warranty a refurbished card (thermally repaired) good operation, for more than a few months.

Therefore and in occlusion, this class of EliteBook products this were planned to end at the waste fields, due HP brand poor strategy in use.

Thanks.
