I too have the exact same problem with my HP Envy. I begin to notice that the back left edge was beginning to open when I would open and close the laptop screen. Quite frequently I would hear cluttering noises from the fan. I then got the screen that says the fan isn't working properly and needs to shut down. I opened the laptop up to see if I could see a problem and there were little plastic pieces broken off. Probably the claps that holds that left edge on. Tried to put the screw back in the slot and won't grab. So that explains why that left edge was so loose.

I use this laptop to run my personal business and can't really afford to have it not being used or even crash. I know it's not good to run without a fan but will I be OK to use it for the time being until I find a fix for this?

I have the same problem broken left hinge and bottom case, it suddenly cracked open, no fall or damage. Every other thing works fine except for this hinge that bulged out and opens the side. What worries me is that this seems to be happening to many people, yet no recall has been made to fix it and now that my Envy is more than a year old. I took it to a local repair shop to avoid further damage and they worked on the hinge but it soon came off again after about 6 months.

I wonder why HP would enjoy this sort of publicity about churning out defective laptops that is supposed to be high end product. I would appreciate to hear from HP on how to fix this their product that cost me so much and making things right with us loyal customers. Thanks

Thnks - I did get an email from Danish HP at some point in time, but they jst said there was no warranty ... 😞

I knew that but I wopuld still say, this is due to bad design, and/or materials chosen.

Anyways - Thanks for your effort, but its very unlikely that I will buy HP laptop nexttime, nor recommend it.

I have the exact same issue with my

HP ENVY 17 J020US

the fan stopped and a blade broke and little black plastic pieces were stuck inside fan. Computer has overheated and locked up or edited* down multiple times as a result.  Currently i can only use tbe laptop if i keep the cover/ screen open. The left hinge seems super stiff.  Can i lubricate it?

The screws are all broke free due to the plastic on the Palmrest breaking.  Can hp help?

I see there are multitudes of postings all over the internet where the left hinge broke for this same model in the same way.
