HP ENVY x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-ey0000 (54J84AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP Envy 360 2-in-1 (15-ey0797nr) laptop with Windows 11 that I bought a little less than a year ago. Sometimes when I open the laptop the keyboard and touchpad don't work. The touchscreen will continue working so that I can control my system, but the entire keyboard does not respond to anything. I have found that the only solution is to restart the computer, and it does fix the problem every time.  The issue has been happening the entire time I've owned the product, but it has gotten significantly worse lately in that this issue is happening multiple times each day, almost every time I open my laptop.

Another similar issue I occasionally have is that when I open the laptop the screen is stuck in portrait mode and I cannot switch it back to landscape view. I have tried going into the settings and manually switching it back, but everything is greyed out. Again, the only solution I have found is to restart the computer and it has solved the issue every time.

I searched the HP support forum and found a very similar problem: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Envy-x360-Keyboard-and-Touc.... However, the solution points to drivers that are much older than my computer (and for a slightly different model), so I’m worried they would be the incorrect drivers for my computer. Also, I didn’t understand why the solution mentions uninstalling the keyboard driver at the end, after replacing the touchpad driver, without installing a new keyboard driver.

I could deal with the issue before and just restart my laptop, but it is happening too frequently that I need to find a solution. It's extremely disappointing that I am having these issues with such a new machine.

Hi, I wanted to see if you found a solution to this yet? I just started getting this problem with my own HP Envy. Like you said, a restart helps, but I've been getting the problem more and more often all of a sudden (typing this from my phone)

I also wanted to compare notes to see if our problems were the exact same or just similar. For me, the problem arises when my computer goes to sleep. I'll sign back in and realize the computer was actually restarted entirely and will show the windows 10 welcome screen as if it were brand new. I'll then exit out of the screen and see that my laptop itself is otherwise fine (wallpaper, software, files intact). The trouble comes when I need to use the keyboard. Its not that the num lock is on or that a different language is selected-- rather that the keyboard will just skip over letters I type at random and will also skip between all caps and lowercase as if my shift key is being held down. I've also noticed that the light when I push the Caps Lock button does not show while the keyboard is having these problems. I've updated the BIOS as similar posts have suggested but that doesn't help at all.

Anyway sorry to piggyback off your post, but yours was the most similar to my own problem so I wanted to unpack and see if the specifics in my problem had any overlap with yours.
