I bought an HP Envy x360 Convertible 15m-ed0xx for my wife back in September 2020. It's been a pretty solid machine until last night. She went to close it and the right hinge popped. I'm sure it's out of warranty but is it possible to get this fixed? This laptop hasn't not been dropped or mistreated in any way.

There seems to be a loose screw in there too. As you can see, the laptop can no longer be closed at all so any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Update for anyone experiencing the same issue. I finally found a number ([Personal Information Removed]) to call that didn't want me to pay for support first (found on this contact page for Home/Home Office under the All other inquiries (non-sales related) header) and spoke to a person. My laptop is about 7 months out of warranty and the person told me that it would be about $120 to buy the replacement hinge (and hinge cap) and do the replacement myself versus sending in the laptop for at least $300-$400 to repair. So I opted to buy the hinge and replace it myself. I do have some experience with PC and laptop repair so we'll see how this goes. Not my ideal resolution as I think HP should cover the cost of the parts and labor since this seems to be an issue with the x360 line, but a resolution nonetheless.

Moral of the story: Don't buy the Envy x360 convertible line.

Update: I received the replacement hinges and caps quickly. I got the laptop apart and the screen separated from the cover. Turns out the metal hinges are fine. The problem is that there is some plastic that's glued to the inside of the cover, and the metal hinge screws into this plastic. The plastic basically disintegrated where the hinge screws in. Since it's the weekend, I can't contact HP. Unless HP sells just the cover (which is doubtful), I'll probably have to buy a whole new screen.

This is a serious design flaw.

I am having the same issue as this person.  My Envy is working OK, but the screen is starting to separate from the metal casing at the left hinge.   I also take very good care of the Envy, and the main reason I bought this laptop is because it had a metal case and seemed robust.  I think it is out of warranty, but this seems like weak design, and I want to know what HP will do about it.

I bought an HP envy x360 m6  about to be a year. As it is an expensive laptop I took very good care of it. But for my luck the right hinge broken apart 3-4days back. I didn't even put much pressure on my laptop anytime, its been sitting on my office table since the past few days and haven't even moved it anywhere. Now it gives me a feel like the whole screen will come off on the right side. Its really nothing of my fault. I never dropped it  or done anything to my laptop. Then I googled about the same problem and discovered its really a very common problem with every laptop of this kind from you. I bought HP laptop cause few of my friends had got it and was working pretty great, but this thing makes me think about it next time. There is nothing of my fault except a very poor design from you guys - HP. I think you should recall all these laptops. This is unfair. Hope you guys do something about it without escalating it further.
The laptop can no longer be closed at all, & i bought this laptop i need to travel around for work and this is so light & good for commute, so any help regarding this is greatly appreciated.

It is a very serious flaw & I wondered as to how my laptop has broken in front of my eyes without any external cause.
This is a serious problem in all the HP Envys as far as I have seen. A friend of mine has also faced the same problem. & the replacement quotation is nearly 1/3rd the price of the laptop!!
They really need to do something regarding the same. Recall & Replace or get the defects rectified from their end.

What I ended up doing with the laptop was going out to a hardware store and buying some epoxy for about $8. I used that to basically "glue" the hinge to the plastic. It starts to dry after about 5 minutes so I clamped it and let it sit overnight. The hinge has been fine with the epoxy, so hopefully that will hold.

This is a very serious design flaw and the plastic they use is probably a poor quality plastic to save on parts.

I searched on eBay and you can find parts for laptops that will be way cheaper than going through HP. You'll just have to do the work yourself. It's not difficult, but you definitely need the proper tools.

Thanks!!

Yes, that's the quick fix, but HP really needs to owe up to their faults and correct their mistakes.

Cause of the Hinge, the screen is broken and that's a bigger pain.

My laptop is still under warranty and they've told that they'll resolve it, hopefully they do it soon!

They seriously do. ***bleep***
Honestly, I am shocked there hasn't been any recall or attempt to remedy this. It sounds like none of these laptops were functioning the way they should be for the price we all paid for them.
