  • Please perform windows update on windows 10.
  • In Windows, search for and open Windows Update.
  • The Windows Update menu opens.
  • Click one of the following options, if presented, on the Windows Update window:
  • If updates are available to download, click Install now.
  • If no updates are currently listed, click Check for updates, and then click Install now if Windows detects updates.

Click here and follow step 2 in the document.

I don't think you understand the plight of the people here, it is NOT the software that has gone wrong, it is the firmware on the touchpad chips that has been flashed by mistake, and HP should take some responsibility.

 

You see, Synaptics realises (at some stage) that some of its Touchpad boards are misbehaving due to firmware issues (regardless of the computer brand). They then decide to issue an update (fix) for this board fitted on certain computers. A company like HP, Dell, Lenovo etc... realise that they have computers with these touchpads fitted, they package this firmware and release it for the laptops affected. This is like a BIOS release (for certain boards regardless of the OS).

 

Usually the flashing procedure should check:

1- The computer on which the Touchpad is to be flashed and the Touchpad board ID and compare it with a list to ensure it is not flashed on the wrong boards. 

2- The current firmware and compare it with the intended and previous releases, in case you already have the latest or what is currently flashed has never been released for this board (to avoid failure check of point 1).

 

Now, I (like many others) flashed the wrongly labelled (by HP) firmware, and it did flash my board, rendering it unusable. It should have refused to flash with amessage stating that it is not intended for this Touchpad.

 

That is whats happening to many people, please do not tell them reinstall this or that software, because, in cases like this, only a reflash should bring back their Touchpad to life.

 

You, HP support personnel, should report these issues to the developers, who should be easily able to package the necessary firmware to be flashed on relevant computers and resolve the issue. But I don't expect much from HP, because I reported once that if you install a 32 bit OS on an M6 laptop, it will only find 1.8 GB regardless of the RAM you have (I have 8 GB), they never fixed it in spite of releasing a security update a year later.
