I am trying to upgrade the RAM in my laptop.
Everything I have found says that it comes with 8 gig but can have up to 16, there are two ram slots (one with the installed ram and one open) I purchased ram to install, however, it doesn't show up once I install it.
I used the same exact RAM as was originally installed, however it still only says there are 8 gigs available.
Is there something else that I am missing? I switched the old ram for the new ram (so only 1 stick was in) and it worked fine but when there are 2 sticks in it only reads 1.

Yes, it supports 16GB max, you can add 8GB to slot 2
>>>> I purchased ram to install, however, it doesn't show up once I install it.
Please re-seat it properly then try
- Hold down Win key then press letter R
- In the search bar type : MSCONFIG.
- Press enter.
- A new window will open.
- Click on the boot tab at the top of the new window.
- Then click on the Advanced option tab.
- A new window will open.
- To the top left you will see a tick box for maximum memory.
- If there is a value typed into the box bellow it remove all of the numbers.
- Then untick the maximum memory box if it is ticked.
- Click OK
- Then click apply.
Hope this helps

You already said "I used the same exact RAM as was originally installed, however it still only says there are 8 gigs available."
Now please check to see the second slot is ok or not.
(a) Remove RAM from both slots
(b) Install old RAM to slot 2
If machine won't boot, must be something wrong on slot 2. If OK, please put new RAM to slot 1 .
Regards.
