HP Pavilion dv7-1070ed
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

hi folks,

I'm trying to get vt-x enabled on my "HP Pavilion dv7-1070ed Entertainment Notebook"

with operating system Windows 10,

I need it for a program called "Oracle VM VirtualBox"

I was trying to upgrade my bios from

Versie F.2D Rev

to

Versie F.14 REV  E (in this bios you can enable vt-x fuction)

link:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53001-53500/sp53216.html

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53001-53500/sp53216.exe?

but i did get an error

"Warning: cannot check platform ID."

does someone know how to solve this?

You have a more fundamental problem. You have the Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 which does not support hardware virtualization:

http://ark.intel.com/products/36750/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-P7350-3M-Cache-2_00-GHz-1066-MHz-FSB

Intel® Virtualization Technology (VT-x) ‡No

So that is why the option is not appearing in the BIOS. It would not do any good to update the BIOS, in other words, it would require a change of processor to something in the T9xxx series, I believe.

The BIOS flash only works in Vista. Sorry.

okee, thank you Huffer,

But it is a bit strange, that i have to downgrade my operating system to Microsoft Vista, to do a bios update?

Normally we go further and not go back, ☻

btw, is there a way to open the advanced bios settings? i've tried F10+A and F10+all arrow keys, but no luck

i think i have a very special notebook

Before i forget, my system (HP Pavilion dv7-1070ed) is running much better with Windows 10 than the previous Microsoft Vista ☺

When I look on the download page all I see is F.2D as the latest BIOS version. The BIOS flash program is designed to run in a specific OS is all I can say. Where did you get the information that the BIOS you are trying to flash will allow virtualization?

That BIOS file is for a much later model. DV7-6000 and -7000. Are you seeing VT at all in the BIOS?

HP Recommended

no, i don't see the vt-x in my bios insydeH20 ver.3.5 only the error in my virtual machine, see attachmentfout1.jpg

Dear Huffer,

Is it possible to upgrade the bios driver F.2D for the new platforms such as Windows 10?

So that you can turn on the vt-x fuction in the bios.
