Hello HP Experts,

I have an HP ProDesk 400 G3 Microtower.
The BIOS is locked with an unknown password.

I understand that HP business desktops use an SMC.bin file for BIOS password reset.
I am requesting guidance on how to obtain the correct SMC.bin file or the proper procedure to unlock the BIOS.

The machine is legally owned and used for work purposes.
I can provide proof of ownership or serial number privately if required by an HP moderator.

A quick community search for the terms BIOS & Password finds all these posts >here<, which are mainly closed with the below explanation:

 

Unfortunately, you will need to contact an HP agent for problems with BIOS passwords.

Here is HP's official policy regarding BIOS passwords:

 

According to the Community's Rules of Participation:

 

4d. No posts shall include instructions/directions intended to bypass or subvert security mechanisms such as lock screens, BitLockers, BIOS lock, passwords, fingerprint/biometry scanners, PINs, or any other safety measures.

 

Therefore, this topic is being locked. If you would like help resetting the password on your product, please Contact HP support in your region.

 

Most likely, HP will not be able to help you.

 

HP ended support for resetting BIOS passwords on March 1, 2019.

 

The link below has HP's official policy in effect since that date regarding lost or forgotten passwords.
