Hi at all,
I have problem with my Spectre x360 laptop. Yesterday I did a Windows reinstallation (the laptop was so slow, can't image what went wrong; in idle mode, it had a CPU workload of 80-90% with an i7 CPU und 16GB Ram).
So I decided to make a full Windows recorvery (I deleted everything).
After reinstalling Windows, I wondered because there were no HP support tools on the laptop anymore (the last times I did a reinstallation, there were tools like HP Support Assistent or McAffee). Anyway, I think it is good when I can decide what has to be installed.
So I downloaded the Support Assistent and made some driver updates. So far so good. The problem is, that my HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 doesn't work anymore. I think I don' have the Thunderbolt 3 chipset drivers on my laptop. The Support Assistent said "Everything is up to date", but in the Windows systems manager there is a unkown "basic system device" when the dock is plugged in. When I click "update" in the Windows systems manager, there is a message, that no driver can be found on the internet.
So searched manually and on the HP homepage and on Google for drivers. I installed the recommended SP78559 "Intel Thunderbolt-Controller-Driver". The installation succeeded but nothing changed. The dock is not working and there is still the the unknown "basic system device" in the Windows systems manager.
Next I searched in Google and found a post with a newer driver SP96871. When I want to install it, there is a message "OS is not supported" (I have the newest version of Windows 10).
Next I updated the BIOS to F.50 Rev.A. but again, no change.
I hope somebody can help me. I need the docking station very urgent to get access to my home network via LAN.
Thank you so far
By the way, sorry for my English language. It's not my foreign language, but they closed the German HP forum.
Best regards.

Hi guys,
I solved the problem. It seemed to be a Windows 10 1909 problem, which has some issues with drivers (you can find lots of posts on Google).
I downloaded the new driver SP96871:
which said "Incompartible OS". Then I did the workaround from this post:
And now, I works perfectly.
It's a pity that we have still driver problems in 2020....I made similar experiences with the Synaptics Trackpad. Long time ago, I was able to install drivers like a Precision Trackpad...It was great. The best Trackpad I ever had….Someday they made new drivers and since that time the performance is so bad. And it's long time ago….no bugfix or something like that.
And we are talking about a Spectre model, which is the high class product. I'm not an Apple user but I think in that way, HP or Microsoft can learn a lot from Apple.
Best greetings
