Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-e0000 (2V8Z4AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi there, I have an HP Victus 16-e0215ax Laptop. It has 8GB of RAM built in and I wanted to upgrade it to 32GB since it said in the specs that it's the maximum supported memory.

I bought two sticks of T-Create 16GB RAM from Teamgroup.

However, when I installed them both, the laptop doesn't boot. The power button only lights up for a while and goes out. I tried troubleshooting it: checked for windows updates; updated to the latest bios. But it still doesn't work.

However, when I tried putting the stock 8GB Ram and one of the 16GB sticks, it works perfectly. Both 16GB sticks worked perfectly in that configuration.

I don't mind using this setup, it's still 24GB of RAM. But it's a shame that I have a 16GB stick around and I can't use it when the specs clearly say that it supports 32GB of RAM. Would anyone have any idea why this is the case? Any kind of help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Its a compatibility issue. The T-Create is not particularly aggressive, but the timings must be just enough different to create a problem with the BIOS. When you run a 16 gig stick together with the original it forces the 16 gig to sync with the 8 gig and it runs but when it is just the 16 gig sticks the system cannot initiate. HP notebooks are unfortunately kind of finicky with memory and you are best off sticking with a mainstream stock OEM brand like Hynix Samsung or even Crucial. I frankly would have thought based on the timings shown on the picture you posted it would have worked but apparently not.

Just a followup question based on that, is it likely to work if I bought a 16GB mainstream OEM (Samsung, maybe, to be completely safe) and partner it with one of my existing T-create 16GBs? Or should I just accept my losses and buy a matching 32GB (2x16GB) RAM set? Thanks in advance.

I don't know what you have available to buy or if you can return what you have but if it were mine I would get a new pair of Samsung or Hynix 16 gb modules. I'm kind of old school and strongly prefer to run matched sets of memory modules. You might see if you can find 16 gb versions of the 8 gb module provided by HP.
